How far can you bend brakes?

I know this isnt ideal, but here's the situation; tell me if it's even possible. I have a beater pair of pow skis that I need to take the bindings off of. The only other loose pair of bindings I have are old look pivot 12s. I don't want to buy new bindings if I don't have to because these are beater skis that wont get used much. The old look pivots have 80mm brakes (I think) and (as far as I know) they dont sell that old of brakes anywhere. Could they be bent to fit 110mm? Again, I know this isnt ideal at all but I figure barely touching snow upon release is still much better than no brakes at all. If it really isn't going to work, obviously I will buy new bindings, because riding with no brakes is a no-no. Hopefully someone can speak from personal experience.

I think 80mm to 110mm might be a stretch. If you could bend them that far I don't think there would be enough brake to actually stop the ski. It might be worth trying if you dont care about the bindings tho. I recently put 110mm on 125mm skis and that was a major bitch to bend them.

What he said, you can bend brakes to whatever the hell you want. If you feel there isn't enough brake, toss some leashes on.

Sweet. That's kind of what I figured. Did you guys heat it and use a vice? I've seen a friend do fks brakes, but the pivot break is designed differently and doesnt leave much for a vice to grab. I have an extra brake so I figured I'll just man-handle it til it fits

they will certainly bend that far but pivot brakes are some of the toughest to bend since there's not much area to grab with a vise and the metal is often very thick and brittle so they snap easily

i would use caution

^good to know. I'll try it with the spare brake before I mount, and if I can't get it to work then I'll just buck up for a new binding.

sometimes a good method for grabbing a thin area is using vise grips and then clamping those into your vise before bending. i've done it a few times but it can be sort of hit or miss

we'll see how it goes. ill try to remember to report back to let everyone know how it went or what did/didnt work
