How do you stay motivated?

I feel like a lot of times I get really excited for a goal I’ve set for myself and am consistent for about a month, then I just burnout and start on something new.

Has anyone found anything helpful to keep up motivation, or better yet just consistency in working towards goals?

Specifics? Helps to have it as part of your daily routine, with a set time slot.

Like working out, and starting a business… this is good though thanks!

Exercise is tough. It's really hard to get started but pretty addictive once you're in it for a while. Having a buddy to workout with or a body image goal to strive for definitely keeps you accountable. Set goals for weights or mile times, or body fat percentage or total body weight goals. I find I'm way more consistent when I'm either working towards a measurable goal or have someone that is relying on me to show up to work out with.

If you smoke weed, stop. I love cannabis but man that shit is a motivation killer like no other.

Kick the social media habit; this includes NS. Don't waste time with TV or being always on your phone.

Improve your mood. Meditation. Yoga. Exercise could help feed motivation into your other goals. Eat clean. Your lack of motivation might be stemming from underlying issues such as depression or maybe you just have adhd (those drugs are fantastic for motivation when taken as prescribed).

If you're trying to start a business that's gonna be tough. You gotta have some sort of passion or drive to get to the finish line there.

Know that it's a means to an end especially when it comes to having to rely on a shitty job to support yourself in life and that it's not forever and don't let it be forever by actively seeking out other opportunities.

Call me sexist all you want but I only hear about women having motivation issues. Maybe try being a guy or have kids or something idk

IDK if this works or not, but I've recently been trying something to help with my motivation. Whenever I think to myself "I should be doing x" or "I have to do y" I have been trying to rephrase it as "I want to do x". For example: "I should be working out more" becomes "I want to work out more"

Hello, I am a dude with motivation issues. My life is easy and I am extremely privileged I have no real drive.

Ah, so basically a woman. I'd suggest manning up, or have kids.

Lmao my mom earns twice as much as my dad how about we avoid the stereotypes and actually have a discussion. What does it really mean to “man up” and how does it affect motivation. Human drive isn’t infinite and people burn out for a reason. Telling someone to “just do it” only works for the short term.

homie I'm really just clownin, online strangers aren't gonna help you figure out what turns your crank, it's up to you. Sorry about your two moms or whatever

This. I’m a woman who has started a successful business and has been on a roller-coaster when it comes to consistently working out. Routine is everything. When you have a routine, you will do the things you need to do even on days when you have zero motivation.

Love this. What’s your business if you don’t mind me asking?

Make your goals achievable and realistic. Motivation gets you going, habit keeps you going.

Boom. I want to frame that last sentence and hang it on my wall

I own a consulting business that provides consulting regarding Alaska alcohol and cannabis laws (for compliance and licensing purposes). I work almost exclusively with law firms, including two local women-run firms who primarily work with smaller businesses and one international firm that exclusively represents large/corporate/nationwide or international businesses. I paused most of my consulting work during the pandemic, as I also oversee three nonprofits. I have resumed speaking at conferences/events and guest lecturing at universities.

I’m also gradually starting a second business that rents vehicles, including suboverland rigs (think modified 4Runners with rooftop tents and other camping/off-road mods). Considering buying an investment property, too.

Anyway, what business are you thinking of starting?

Holy cow! That’s so awesome! I love to see women owned businesses supporting each other in that way. What’s the biggest piece of advice that you have for a new business owner?

I’m still trying to figure that part out. I really would like to own storage units, however the upfront cost is more than I can swing at the moment. But what I’m more looking into now is becoming a vendor for the forest service, so sink trailers or water tenders for wildland fire deployment.

I’m a bit behind the eight ball but my goal is to break seven figures by 25.

Literally the best answer. If you start to do it automatically it means you don’t need motivation or willpower anymore.

You are such a fucking dweeb it’s insane

One of my exes told me (in a very pretentious manner) that I was destined to kill myself, sooner rather than later. Sheer hatred of her psycho ass is what is keeping me going, and every day that I don’t yeet myself into the front end of a PT6 turbine is a small victory. But as far as the capitalism motivation is concerned, idk

THE FIRST STEP IS NOT MAKE THREADS LIKE THIS BECUZ UR EFFECTIVELY DOING THE OPPOSITE.

NOW STFU AND GET TO WORK!!!

Setting realistic goals helps a bunch. That said it's easy to dive into something and then get over it. If it's something you want to do make time for it, have a slot that you can do it and make sure you leave that space.

fine joke but you see way too many "gym guys" who apparently are only doing the "eat lots of protein and carbs" part of the plan for this joke to work

when girls are kinda round they won't try to tell you with a straight face that they're "bulking"

Lmao true for sure. Real talk tho, I've only ever heard women talk about not knowing what they enjoy, or what their passions are, things of that sort. Most every guy I know has a pretty clear image of what they want and what they enjoy.

Maybe hang out with different women? Or they don’t want to tell you. Because I know exactly what I want haha

People can the worst. I’m glad she’s an x now. That’s a horrible thing to say.

Heard that’s called f*#% you fuel. Honestly it’s the best motivator.

Weird cuz usually when you know what you want you're pretty motivated to get it

NOPE

don’t say stuff like that

you’ve got all of NS to support you not doing that

(but actually, it’s true)

Motivation ebbs and flows. It shouldn’t be what drives progress toward goals. Establishing a routine, as others have said, is how you become consistent and actually reach them. Once the routine is established you will require less motivation to stick to it.

The hard part is establishing the routine in the first place. To do that you’re going to need to trick yourself on the days you don’t feel motivated. Personally, when I don’t feel like working out, I picture myself running into an ex and being fuckin yolked. It’s happened to me twice since I got consistent and serious about working out and both times felt pretty damn good lol. I use that image in my head and it’s enough to get me out the door and into my truck. Then auto pilot kicks in and I’m back in my routine.

That image that you use on the bad days is different for everyone but the theme that works for me is picturing someone that doubted me, or used me in some way and knowing they would be intimidated by me if they saw how much progress I’ve made. Doesn’t matter if it’s true or not. Just picture it and tell yourself that by making progress you’ll make it true.
