How do you guys take rust off your edges on your skis??

Title says it all! i got a rust problem and want to fix it without sharpening my skis. Let me know what tricks you have found or what methods you use.

you dont understand. the rust is almost all around the ski. I wipe them down with a cloth before a day skiing but it still comes back. ill try ur idea. tyvm

Gummy stone, the soft one, works great. The rust will always come back though. Most park skis wont last long enough for rust to be an issue though if you actually ski park with any regularity.

gummi stone... or 300-400 grit diamond file. you could use a more agressive file, just be careful. and just make sure you dry your skis off before you store them and dont store them outside. easily avoidable

Additionally ... Dry your skis off every time you ride also , not just for storage . Rust will emerge overnight if you don't care for them .

Doing this works for me. I have a roof rack so the skis would get soaked driving back from the mountain in the rain (PNW). I thought letting them airdry in the garage was good enough, but I started having problems with rust. Now I dry them with a towel when I get home and almost never see any rust build up. What little I do get comes off easy with a gummy stone.

Dont do this, at least i wouldnt suggest using acid based rust removers.

Say goodbye to your bases and sidewalls if you do.....

Vinegar(or baking soda and water til its pasty) and a wire brush carefully,

followed by industrial steel wool(can find it right next to sandpaper in EVERY tool store)

If this combo doesnt take care of it or if its still has black spots that means the rust has pitted itself into the metal and is to deep to be removed with hand abrasives and will keep reoccuring

If the metals pitted or rust keeps reoccuring frequently a fresh edge tune and keeping them dry from there on out will do the trick.

I also cover my edges in wax in the offseason, like glob it on, its super humid in the summer where i live....
