How do you explain park skiing?

How do you explain the aspects of park skiing to your friends and family? the style of clothing, what you actually do, and everything that has to do with it?

its impossible, people really cant comprehend the stupid shit we do on skis, and i dont care cuz i love that our community is small and we dont have to share with people

It's like white people trying to be black by listening to rap with the added element of baggy clothing and attempting to emulate blackleticism by doing gymnastics on jumps and rails.

Snowboarding + Skateboarding + emulating black "gangster" culture + lots of parents money + biggest trendwhores on earth + skis with tips on both ends = freeskiing

A mom once asked me in the lift line: why do you all wear clothing that is too big for you, and I responded : for the same reason people are wearing Canada Goose

clothing: i turn black as soon as i touch skis so i need to be dressed adequately.

park skiing: i do tricks

i explain it by starting with: A guy goes to the place and does the thing then jumps and does the other thing with all the things on meanwhile he is doing the thing with the thing on the other thing, and then he goes and sits on the thing and goes up the big thing and does the thing and watches the people do the thing while he does the other thing then he gets of the big thing and does the thing all over again with the thing and the thing on the thing and goes there and than back and does the thing for a while until the thing is very much a thing but at the end of the day he just does the rest of the thing with his friends. understand?

The ski world seems to be pretty perfect right now. Im really worried the olympics is going to change that, but i guess we just have to enjoy it while it's here

unfortunately the easiest way to explain it to a gaper is to alert them that skiers do rails/jumps just like snowboarders.

no sense in trying to mention that skiers have been doing tricks, hitting jumps, and dropping huge cliffs/lines since decades before snowboarding was invented, just with a different mentality/style....

but yeah theyre the same damn sport

since when does listening to rap music and wearing baggy clothes make you trying to act black? I have loved hip hop music since I was a youngin when my dad would play big daddy kane in the car. its ignorant to say EVERYONE wearing baggy clothes and bumping rap music are trying to be black. Skiing is a form a self expression and I also like to express myself is through music since I love both of them. Baggy clothes are comfortable and I wear baggy ass clothes in my everyday life as well as skiing. So with that I conclude my tangent by saying you are stupid and your views are jaded.

To be honest I feel most people understand what freeskiing is now, though they couldn't name off a single pro they're aware the sport exists at least North Americans/most Euros.

Lol... I don't understand that either. If they're too short to make a pole plant, just fucking give them away and ski switch all the time.

YOu'd be surprised. I meet guys that are like the husbands of my wife's friends, or parents of friends and there's a high percentage that really don't even know that there is skiing in the X-games. There is a surprisingly large delay of when mass popular culture seems to get the differences of these things.

this. The fact that people feel like they need to explain the clothing like it is an integral aspect of freeskiing is hilarious.

I usually ask if they've seen skiing in the X-Games, and if they say yes then I say like that, but on a smaller scale, and if they so no then i say this^ and usually try to find a photo of me on my phone

I tell them that park skiing is an art form, and that each park skier likes to express themselves by there style of clothing, and the way they shred. Some try to copy others style, while others create there own.

whatever your motivations are, the baggy trend came from skate/snowboard culture, which directly took it from black culture. I dont think its a bad thing, but you have to realise skiers just didn't invent tall t's out of nowhere. So maybe you dont mean to, but you're still ripping off black culture.

Same with the old school hip-hop. It was made by black people for black people, and while i think its great that we are all free to enjoy it, make sure you remember it wasn't made for you. Just like country isn't targeted at black people.

So keep self expressing yourself through trends from the hood, but don't be so ignorant as to say you aren't emulating a culture you will never be part of.

over the years i've learned to speak the language of the blind and resort to "i go down the mountain, go over a bump, fly through the air, go upside-down, and land on my feet." It usually works pretty well unless I say I land backwards then all of a sudden it all just becomes a big mindfuck.

Still learning their language for rails. those are strangely more difficult

one thing i'd add is when i compare the difficulty of skiing compared to snowboarding is that you have more control of your body then your skis on skis and you have more control of your body than your board on snowboards thats why fo most people crashing on skis is easier to get out ofsome flips are easier on snowboards like frontflips and backflips and things like corks and flatspins are easier on skis also because of the more control u have of a board rails are a little harder

Its true how it all started with black culture. Despite this, actual black skiers are complete boners w/ no steeze, and wear small jackets.

Pretty funny. Who's gonna talk shit though?

Usually I just get them to watch this:

Pretty good demonstration of the sport, plus you don't have to explain the clothing aspect.

hey i do this thing, its not as cool as snowboarding, skateboarding, surfing, tying shoe laces,

but it is cooler than getting mugged and having all of your teeth curb stomped out of your skull
