How do you choose edit songs

i just go through my favourite music at the time. look for songs with strong beats that you can edit to. choose something that gos with your style. dont use music thats been used in edits before.

i was just wondering how everyone does it. Like i usually take songs that are new to me and that i am listening to alot lately

i listen to the song several times, and even though i haven't filmed anything i start thinking about how i want the edit to looks likebus rides are very productive

well as you make more and more edits you begin to realize what songs go good with different types of edits. for example in itunes i have a play list of say 80 songs that are potentials for edits, all have different uses and would be used in diffrent types of edits. it just comes with time. have fun with it

i prefer the opposite.

I like to try to capture the day in my footage and then express that feeling in the edit. So for me, song choice comes after shooting.

Think of it this way.

So say you come into a day of shooting and you've decided you want to give the day a dramatic feel because you've picked out this dramatic song for the edit. Now, you're done shooting for the day, and you've got all your dramatic footage, but you realize that for everyone participating in the day it was a really fun filled, happy going day. Wouldn't you say your footage wouldn't quite match the emotions of the day?

Keep in mind that my above feelings are applied to the world of skiing and event coverage of any sort.

However, if it's a set shoot where you've already thought out and storyboarded what you'll be shooting, then there is no problem with preselecting a song.

i get a playlist of songs that could be good and play them over my edit, then the 1 that sounds i put in the edit

throw all your CD's on the garage floor, in the cases because it makes a bigger mess. then you run them over with your car, back and forth, whitchever survives choose a song from it. kinda narrows it down a bit.
