How do you carry skis and boots up a mountain?

Hey NS, I have a dakine heli pro which has a ski strap carrier and i also have a transpack bootbag to carry boots. What should I use if I want to hike a local mtn before the lifts open.

Should I have my skis attached to my transpack or strap the skis and boots to my heli pro?

assuming you mean one of these, its doable. I used to throw my skis under the buckle for the top flap.

It's far from ideal though, the bag is pretty bulky and the skis usually slide around which can be a pain on narrow hiking trails.

Have you tried to fit you boots in the dakine pack? put one in right side up then put the other over it mirrored in the opposite direction. Should work alright. Hiking in ski boots sucks.

boots locked on the skis on the backpack

Highly recommend. Then when the boots are in and the brakes are up just put straps and bands on them so they stay together

Why would you hike with your boots off? Wouldn't they be so cold it would be impossible to put them back on?

But what ^ said, touring setup and skins are by far the best way.

I dont have a touring set up and I will be hiking up to the snow

Skins. If not touring, strap your skis on the bag then toss the boots over the top of the bag by the power strap. Boot up as soon as you hit snow.

I would definitely go with the heli pro. i have the same one and the ski strap is very convenient, and like they said before just have your boots clicked into your skis

Take your heli pro. Strap your boots together and feed the boot straps through the bag's top loop. Use the straps on the sides of the bag around the boots cuffs.

You would be better off to hike with your boots on. The only value to strapping your boots to your pack is for long approaches that begin before snow line, or going to the airport.
