How do these people get jobs at shops?

So today I went in to get a ski mounted, and I had a very interesting experience with one of the shop employees.

I wanted to know what he would recommend for mounting position for my binding for the type of skiing that I do. (for reference this is for the Rossignol scimitar which has a mounting line at 0 (recommended) -2 (2 cm back from recommended) and +5 (center mount)). So when I told him what kind of skiing I would be doing he proceeded to tell me how the -2 mark was the factory recommended line for skiing all mountain type terrain, the 0 line was center mount for park, and the +5 line was +5 from the true center of the ski, for pipe and stuff I guess...

I then asked to talk to the ski tech who I told this story to and reassured me what I though about the mounting lines, I then told him i wanted them at recommended so he went to mount them.

It truly amazes me how some people can get jobs at ski shops with so little knowledge about skis.

I don't know the skis, and I wasn't there, but 0 usually is the true center of the ski.

nah I also have the scimitars and the 0 mark is the recomended. Maybe thats what the employee thought though

I was at a wintersports shop to get boots a couple o' months ago and i was assisted by this 17-18 year old.. person. I knew way more about everything in the store than he did.

'So yeah, this is the Dalbello boot from Ill Moro. Its more of a downhill boot but you can use it for park' Etc etc

In a single shop I came a cross one really unknowledged staff and one really helpful and really cool.I wanted to try a new pair of boots so obviously I was a bit fussy about perfection for my foot, so I was like "no that one is really to large" so she gave me thinner, easy... then I was, "naah, I feel this one is too rigid, I need a shoes with a flex of 100 max" and she was like, well "I dunno, uhmm, perhaps you should uhmm.. well you know what ? Look for your boots yourself, I can't help you".

I mean flex guys !! probably the most basic thing even to know about boots...

Whereas in the workshop I came across some real professionals and that is very very enriching for my personal knowledge !

Its the thinnest park of the ski or the "core center" the focal point of side cut. True center is the measured center of the ski and unless its a symmetrical ski 0 will never be true center
