How do I shoot timelapses with my Canon 60D?

I've heard talk of downloading Magic Lantern, but can I just buy some sort of remote with a timer instead? Which would be the better option?
 
Magic Lantern is easy to download. If you read the directions and follow them carefully your camera will have a bunch of cool, new, useful features and its free. Magic Lantern is your answer
