How did you tear your ACL?

Cased a poppy, poorly built step down. Was ready for it, guess my legs weren't strong enough.

Tore ACL, PCL and lateral meniscus. They initially thought it was a tibia plateau fracture. Glad it was ACL. Tibia plateau fractures are fucking rough with twice the recovery time.

Skied 140 days the following year. Do your rehab/PT kids

Jumping off a cliff called Smooth Air at Squaw. It was early January, and I had not hit anything over 15 feet yet, so I definitely bit off more than I could chew. Smooth Air is around 35-40 feet according to Squallywood, which is big for me. I had never hit anything over 25 feet, so a cliff that size would be a stretch even if I had hit it later in the year when I would have been more prepared by hitting bigger cliffs. The lesson is to work up gradually. The moment I went off it I knew it was too big for me, I ended up cartwheeling. My ski got stuck under the pow in a backwards twisting fall and I felt the pop and heard the pop. I had lived in Tahoe for 6 years at that point. I decided it was time for grad school and weekend warrior status.

Almost tore mine water ramp training in PC 2 or 3 weeks ago, lucky to just come out with a knee contusion

Much appreciated.

Truth be told, I was always pretty conservative when I lived up there. I just got some confidence and went for it. I followed someone who was much better than me, which can sometimes be a good thing although obviously not in this case. His name is Myles, and he is one of the guys from UnofficialSquaw. I believe he is still up there ripping, he has posted videos of himself on TGR skiing McConkey's/Eagle's Nest which might be the most difficult line at Squaw.

I should add that right before I hit Smooth Air I skied what might be the line of my life. I was one of the first guys to the Light Towers. Usually the towers slide or are windbuffed, they are so steep that it is hard for them to hold pow, but this time was different. I went into the Easy In entrance then cut skier's right to a spine that had formed. I expected it to be thick windbuff, but I sunk in and it felt super light. I made a few turns down with sluff coming down both sides of me. Then I bombed over to Cornice 2 and hit a 15 footer. I only crossed one track. Then they opened Granite and that was it for my ACL and my career as a Squaw local.

exact same thing happened to me at lake louise 2 years ago. the style carves weren't worth it.

Sprained it catching that downhill edge while stopping, finally killed it getting off a horse 8 months later which is lame af but it did the job nonetheless

a c-box lolololol. it was an icy day and i was on my warm up lap. landed backseat, noodley stupid park skis + dull edges + a sheet of ice in the landing made it so i couldn't recover so i went into the classic twisting backward fall. Moral of the story is it can happen at anytime given the right conditions. Be careful out there!

Slightly over-rotated a 360, caught left inside edge, did a reallllllly slow backwards twisting fall, textbook ACL "phantom foot"

Through some miracle I only partialed it so I'm happily skiing around with a slightly jalopy ACL.

MCL and meniscus got a tweak-up as well, they call it the "Unhappy triad"... seriously, it's a thing.

I've seen that guys videos, he rips. His names Miles Clark and he's posted some funny ass shit about squaw.

I tore my MCL not my ACL, but fucked the head of my tibia and femur as well and it was because i over rotated on a backie and caught an edge sliding down the landing. It probably didnt help that i opted to ski down the hill to the parking lot rather than take a sled ride

I tore mine in MN. I was at football practice at Winter Park in Chaska and dropped back into the pocket, once their I sustained a non-contact injury that resulted in a dislocated knee and a completely torn ACL.

Left knee: mobbing through steep, tight trees. Zigged when I should have zagged and my instincts told me the best way to survive was jumping head first to squeeze through the trees.. Left ski got caught, i stopped very suddenly and my knee was dislocated.

Right knee: skiing park on my Wrenegades, competely overshot a lippy little hip. Stomped it on flat ice from 10-15ft up but felt my knee explode on landing.

Last season at Perisher I went past the landing of the last jump on front valley by about 13m. It was the hugest overshoot of my entire life. If anyone remembers the set up on Front Valley in 2015 I landed in line with the take off for the rainbow rail. Random people were asking me if I was OK. My whole body was hurting even up through my chest and some how I didn't get injured at all. I was pinching myself on the way back up. When I read stuff like your post I just get more astounded about it.

Left knee: Stepping into a hole during a soccer game - 2012

Right knee: Bad tackle during a soccer game - 2013

Right knee: Texas tourist not knowing how to stop and crashing into me in a lift line - 2015

Left knee: Eating shit on a cat track at Bridger - February 2016

I have shit luck.
