How did NS Start

I'm pretty sure...Matt Harvey started it around 2000 as a forum for other skiers to discuss the emerging sport, word of mouth spread it around the ski community, and the rest is history.

Yes I believe that the site was founded just before the turn of the millenium in 1999.

Harvey was just feeling it and boo bomb, can of corn.

From https://www.newschoolers.com/web/content/pagetemplate/name/history ...

It all started back in 1999, sitting at work, bored out of my mind yet feeling slightly ambitious. I decided that skiing was taking a definite turn for the better, and the sport needed a core website to promote it. The original site was as basic as they come. No interactivity. No stellar content. Nothing but a couple of profiles of some sick riders, and three trick tips.

A year later, on a saturday afternoon in September of 2000, again while sitting at work with nothing to do, a decision was made that would change Newschoolers.com forever. The site needed something more. It needed more content. More updates. It needed to be completely interactive. So on that sunny afternoon, from 20 stories above downtown Ottawa, with the visual buzz of tourists and mall-walkers below, the new Newschoolers.com was born.

The first interactive Newschoolers.com, which was released on October 1st of 2000, was a hit from the day it started. Members loved the interactivity, and guests loved the content. After only three months online, the site had attracted more than 500 members, a sure sign of good things to come.

As the site continued to grow to new levels, so did the glitches in the code. Every old-time member can remember the days of the re-code, when the site was completely rebuilt from the ground up. The re-code ensured that Newschoolers.com would not fold under the pressure of the thousands of hits it received every day, and after moving to another new server, the site was finally solid and ready for action.

Three years after the initial concept was conceived, Newschoolers.com has become the place to find information, talk to other skiers, watch videos, and look at pictures. The possibilities are endless as thousands of new forum posts appear each week, and new members join daily. As the sport of skiing continues to grows, so does Newschoolers.com. With magazines, ski movies, and ski hills noticing the mass potential of the site, only time will tell what will happen next.

well its only grown in size. the intelligence of the members and quality of the forums has rapidly decreased

i dono man, it's always been pretty stupid (in a good way). i'd say the average intelligence has gone down maybe a bit, but people act like this site used to be like a NASA meeting when it's always had complete assholes, pointless threads, shittalking kids, etc etc

there are definitely more younger people now but that's a good thing. i will honestly never understand why people enjoy acting like dicks to new/young members. i started coming on here when i was young and i'll always remember the older guys who answered my stupid questions and weren't total dicks as i learned about the world of skiing. when i see fucks with 10,000 posts being douchebags to new members cause they asked a question that has been asked before, i really do think it's sad

uggh youre probably right.. but in some situations it might be better to hear about shit from honest sources. remember that thread a little while ago where that kid asked for advice for his first time drinking? he actually got realistic, responsible advice. that shit can be pretty cool

In the beginning Newschoolers was created.

This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move.

it was started in china, more than 10 years ago, under the premise that it would become a very popular site, attractive to almost all skiers, and would gain a huge following.

Then one day, the original creators would unleash igucci, just to see how NS would respond.

...That's right. The entire website was created just to be a test market for igucci. That's why all the threads about starting outwear/T shirt companies get ridiculed and deleted. Eliminate the competition.

I'm the wikileaks of NS. I know all about the corruption behind the scenes, the money laundering, the intimidation, the shady dealings and I'm prepared to unleash 600,000 documents revealing the whole plot should anything happen to me.

we'll all go down together.

Also would like to bump this to point out that since i posted about igucci, i haven't seen a single spam thread from them. NS is regrouping.

Don't lie. We learned more about aerospace in those 4 years than Russia did in decades.
