How buttery are afterbangs vs chronics?

Hey all,

Just back from a week in Italy, had a wicked time charging around the mountain on my Chronics. That being said, i've been wondering about either swaping out to afterbangs (or getting in addition to my chronics) for a more buttery ride. The chronics are fun and great for just all round shredding, but was somewhat jealous of my border friends just nose pressing all over the place as the chronics were too stiff to really do that.

Any thoughts on adding/swapping out to afterbangs from chronics? I'm 5'9", about 140lbs and currently riding on 171s. If I were to get some afterbangs, reckon I should go 166 or 177?

Cheers!

did not read so ill tell you this...

chronics are wicked stiff and the afterbangs are wicked buttery i would stay with the chronics seeing as how all afterbangs end up breaking

hey man i just got the '12 chronics and i could butter a bagel, a biscuit, you name it. i'm 6 foot and riding the 178's and couldn't be happier. i think your focus should be on your own weight and not so much your height when getting a ski. i'm getting way more flex out of my chronics than I ever could with more stiff skis like the ooollldddd school public enemies, but also granted i'm 190 lbs. just saying, if your looking to butter around and get whacky on the slopes (and sacrifice control on rails and when boosting bigger jumps) get a slightly shorter ski and read as much as you can about what its made out of. just don't get the Abangs if you want flex - the entire ski being one solid wood core does NO justice to making a flexible ski

Hm interseting; thanks for the reply. My chronics are the older 2009-2010 model, so I'm not sure how they changed the construction / design since. Maybe they are more flexible now. hmm.

Alternatively, perhaps its just a strength / technique thing that i should work on? All round I'm pleased with my chronics, and certainly not complaining about them. Guess i'd just like to jib around some more and doing some more play.

WDYT?

I would not switch out your chronics as I feel you would miss them too much, but I would add the afterbangs to your lquiver if you really would like too! They are to very different skis so its not to hard to justify, I have thought of doing the same. As for the size I would go with the 177 as they are noodles and you will be center mounted! hope this helps

Personnally some skis that I would compare to afterbangs would be something like K2 press, Line Mastermind, Bluehouse antics, Atomic Punx. My adive though is that the Afterbang is very good at being an extremely buttery fun rail ski so if you want the Line TC experience just get the A-Bang

I rode a pair of chronics last week and I could butter in them fine, that being said I can butter line prophets which have a metallic matrix in them so yeh

armada thall. the black lines on the 2012 ski are actualy flex points that are easy to butt on and are a great fun buttery poppy ski.

also something with rocker might be an option. something like the armada halo. it is a flexy aki and with the elf shoe tecnlogy rocker it is really easy to get up and butter on the tips and the tails.
