How are late spin’s physically possible

Your upper body completes the rotation first and your lower body follows. Also, physics don’t apply to me because I’m awesome.

If you look at his skis his edges are engaged such that they push him left. Then yeah, he counters it with his upper body on the lip then has to really twist his way around to catch up in the air

It's the exact same as aerial skiers who go off the jump perfectly square to it then use their arms and upperbody to set spins.

Easiest way to pull off the late spin illusion is just lead the spin one way with your shoulders and shifty the other way with your legs, then throw the shifty back the other way to complete the spin with your hips.

it’s not a “real” late spin but kids watching from the chairlift will probably say “damn that dude just did a late spin” so it’s good enough.

That’s what I normally see from late spins but in this clip he doesn’t even move coming of the lip I’m stumped. It’s honestly kinda like a magic trick

what’s a real late spin?

It’s a manipulation of a shifty. Try tapping a flag with your tails and doing a 360. It’s the same idea just held longer.

It's often referred to as a cat twist. If you're hanging from gymnast rings and start doing a hula hoop motion you'll start to rotate.
