Yeah i had ARV 106s in like 2015 that were noodles, theyve made them quite stiff now, id definitely go for the 188s for your height/weight.

I skied my ARVs in basically all conditions, never hit rails though to keep the edges fresh.

Sick I'm getting these

What ski are you guys doing this on. I have the Reckoner 112s and I am finding that they are a little soft for resort pow days.

I’ve got some armada JJs which do pretty good. I know they’re known as a softer ski, but in recent years they’ve made them stiffer underfoot. I’m 6’8” 260 and even at my size they let me charge chop pretty fast. It sounds like the same applies for a lot of the ARVs

Damn thats sick, I almost got a used pair from the demo shop at Mammoth but the guys talked me out of it, we get such dense snow in Mammoth even if you're skiing pow it's not like the blower pow you get in Idaho/Utah/Colorado and I only find myself needing something that big when I travel. I'll keep my Reckoner 112's they are great for soft soft or deep deep but they deflect pretty bad in the chop I can feel em wanting to fold in on themselves.

Dawg you’d charge through crud with noddles on

holy shit man you should be playing football or basketball

Yeah I used to do that stuff in high school but kinda came to the realization that I just wanted to ski, it’s the most fun and fulfilling thing for me even if I’ll never be a pro athlete

interesting take. i do the opposite. since the snow in the sierras is more dense, i want the biggest ski possible to stay on top, since dropping down underneath means you're more likely to get stuck (vs lighter pow, which you can ski through). i'm 5'6" and use 194 genomes (141mm underfoot) for the biggest days so i don't submarine and get stuffed.

Yea this is a solid approach until about mid day and everything is chopped up. I'll still keep the dedicated pow skis but def looking for something in the middle of the quiver still. Was looking at the revolt 104's and J skis Hotshot, and now the ARV 106. Thinking the revolts are likely out since they are the softest/not metal of the bunch

Real talk on the gondola though... this is where its f'd up. They want to charge $40ish per ride, itll be about 45 minutes to the resorts (its a 10 minute drive without traffic... even with once your in the canyon its maybe 25). The gondola will be closed anytime the canyon road is closed, they dont intent do add any additonal public transportation to the gondola, so now we all get to race for parking at the gondola lot...

Alta was so sick this year, with the reserved parking I could roll up mid day on a weekend and always get a spot. Sometimes took a bit to get past the birds traffic. IMO the real solution is just eliminate hwy parking and force the bird to go full reserved parking like alta where its free for pass holders and you can reserve a week in advance.

Revolt 114 :) It is very stiff but also very fun, definitely not as freestyle oriented but really amazing ski

This makes a lot of sense. What's also so stupid about the gondola is that this season there were multiple large avalanches EXACTLY where they want to put the gondola towers, so it might get destroyed (or closed for weeks at a time for structural integrity testing) if we have another huge snowfall season.

I mean no one wants the thing, and by no one I’ve met no one who wants it. My entire life they have proposed lcc traffic solutions and they never went through. This one seems different because it’s the first one where multiple entities can profit.

Blackops 118s. So fun in the chop, that ski has changed my life I will always have a pair.

wait huh? why?

cant be shooting big big guns into the mountain side causing big big avalanches with lots and lots of people in between the gun and the mountain and between the start and end of the slide path.

purely based on what ive seen but a lot of people who are pro gondola assume its gonna do a lot of things that it wont. for example its gonna be a lot slower than driving, its not gonna be free, it wont run when the canyon is closed or when the weather isnt cooperating (windy, lightning, etc),but it will have tons of traffic going to it and it will be hard to staff because uta hates paying their workers whos titles dont start with “C”.

Skied 112 reckoners and felt the same, I got some bibbys for deep days and they kill it.

First time someone has brought up Rossignol in a long time. Used to have the Scratch BCs back in the day and loved that ski. So far on the list I have:

ARV 106

J skis Hotshot

Revolt 104

As far as strictly pow performance I will likely keep the Reckoner 112s for the deep days or times when im in CO or UT, though I am excited to see Rossignol doing something someone on newschoolers finds interesting

I think many of us arent entirely opposed to a good solution. This ones just half asses and is all about the profit. It seems that most pro gondola people just havent read into it enough to realize its a shell of what you'd hope it would be.

Also, one of the glory's of the cottonwoods right now is that there is limited parking. Even over the holidays the lines are bad, but not unbearable like we see online. Its gunna blow when there is easy access to the hill, the crowds will be terrible.

Maybe at that point the resorts will limit ticket sales, although it’s hard to imagine turning away all that profit. More likely they’ll allow the place to get so swamped that people naturally stay away and a new equilibrium is reached. Just gotta hope you’re on the side that can put up with it.

i do not see snowbird turning people away. alta is down for the experience but snowbird is run by powdr CORP. the fact that they are even considering staying open in june is amazing. the days of Dick Bass and staying open because they can are long gone. Powdr Corp (Ian Cummings) likes money and skiing, Bass liked skiing and money. theres a difference.

Snowbird bought the expected parking expansion and proposed gondola base, probably with the intent to sell it back to the state. They like money and maybe a little skiing.

Didn't they get figured-out for being in the pockets of lobbyists too?

My honest to god real take is there is no saving these canyons anymore. The greedy mormon government let these resorts put their states balls in a seat-clamp and there is absolutely no turning back at this point. People who think its going to be like the "Good ol days" are either 60 years old and retired or are downright delusional. I'm sorry if that offends some of my friends on here but its the truth. This is a PWDR resort we're talking about here.

that's crazy it isn't gonna run when the canyon's closed. it makes sense but like wtf is the point. is it a climate change narrative or sum?

I’m curious how the bike trails down LCC in the summer will evolve.

might as well adapt and embrace because it’s definitely happening

and if you really want the goods, discover more than the resorts have to offer…
