Hostels in NZ

I am coming on the 27th from the States with 2 of my friends and we are wondering if the hostels that are in NZ are gonna be jammed, espcially wannaka. i really dont know much about the hostel deal there so if any locs can enlighten me if its worth the extra 300 bucks for the trip to just all split cheap motel rooms...

 
There's quite a few hostels in town. I think the cheapest one is Bullock Creek where they were doing a week for $100 in June. It has gone up now, but I duno by how much. Probably just worth trying to book yourself into a hostel for the first few nights. I stayed in the Purple Cow when I first got here and its pretty nice there.

 
book in advance coz rooms go real fast espically in winter, i stayed at the purple cow a few times, its okay

 
the dollar there is just getting destroyed... my US cashflow is going to go along way...
