Hood solstice

Yo. I’m thinking of hitting up hood for the solstice but I’ve heard it is 3500ft of gain and I don’t have a touring setup. Was talking to a buddy too and he said they’ve been pretty strict about letting people hop on Palmer for a quick ride. I’m kinda down for a big climb so long as I’m not postholing the entire way up. Any tips?

You won't posthole if you take the climbers trail, and you will have tons of people climbing with you on Thursday, too. Don't walk in the skin track, leave no trace and have a good time, its always one of the best days of the year. I have some old skins i could give you as well.

Totally worth the walk. Bring plenty of water, snacks, and layers. I've found that it's infrequently post-hole snow, you can usually stay afloat if hiking the zones under mile and palmer if it's where they're running cats after hours. Once you get to the boot pack above palmer you're golden.

Just don't make the mistake I made by only bringing a single beer and no weed. The weight is worth it cus you'll be waiting up there for a while for sunset. Enjoy!
