Hey there trying to move to hood for the summer and work and Timberline or Windells. Anyhow curious if anyone has any experience living on the hill car camping or finding a place? Any insight would be nice. Im super stoked just a little unsure about housing, or camping all summer.

Do some research on BLM land, I’m not super familiar with the hood area but there’s a ton of public land out west I’m sure you can camp on. Or get in contact with somebody who lives out there and post up in the backyard or something

no experience but some people here seem to have had bad experiences with crackheads in the camping

It's pronounced homeless. If rent were cheaper those 'crackheads' would be working on wall street.

I'm sure meth and fentanyl has absolutely nothing to do with oregon's homeless lmao all heros down on their luck for sure

dude you're just an elitist.

If the rent went up, you could be out there living in filth and smoking meth all day too.

They're all just down on their luck. Oregon should just provide them with a single family home instead of supporting the oil industry.

damn... too bad oregon spent all their crackhead money on making sure they all have clean pipes to smoke from and fresh needles so they dont pass around their AIDS instead of single family homes for all of them ?

Super helpful yall

When it comes to camping, those who figured it out probably aren't gonna wanna risk blowin up the spot. Sounds lame and there maybe somebody who can hook it up but part of the fun is figuring it out yourself.

Also transient campers in oregon are sketchy af best of luck.

There is lots of camping in the area. You wont be able to just post up in one spot for the whole time so you will have to move around, I cant remember the duration you can stay camped, it may be 14 days(also will need to get a parking pass for the area). If you are going to be employed at T-line they should be a good source of information regarding housing. Are you going to have your own car? If so you can possibly rent a place down the road in Welches or Zigzag area or even camp closer to those areas. Good luck and go have fun, Hood is fun times!

Damn, people are just looking for threads to argue about stupid shit. Woo yea. Look at my politics!!!

OP, nowhere to live up the hill but there's plenty of places to camp. Housing can be tough depending on when you go and how long you plan to be there. Probably not worth the hassle if you're just going for the summer.

There's places to camp all over and the snow parks are fair game. There's a couple right by Trillium just a mile down from Govy, there's the rest area in Govy, you're allowed to car camp on the sides of the road in the summer in Govy.

A lot of people start at the airstrip. That's at trillium lake. Not a bad spot, gets crowdes. Better for short term and partying maybe.

If you end up camping you'll meet people where you can take a real shower sometimes in town. There's bathrooms at the rest area, canpgrounds, most of the big trailheads, and obviously the mtn.

But you can camp all over the place. I was down near frog lake most of the summer.

A lot of good options. Can just kinda show up and find a spot and then go from there. Some jobs at tline can be competitive so apply sooner than later.

Idk anything about working at windells really. Would assume there's some sort of staff housing there though.

If you camp in the forest be careful about leaving your trash where you camp, there is a local legend of a trash kilelr who abducts people who leave their trash up there. Respect the area and the people up there will respect you, and don't light any fires or youre gonna have a bad time

If you're there outside of burn bans why not have a fire? Don't be an idiot obviously but fires are chill.

Agree on the trash though. Some people are garbage humans.

You can run up fires outside of the burn ban of course and being Oregon it's always super wet so thats a plus. But for the summer definetly bring a camp stove cause you will get fined bad for fires and it's super dry and prone to fires from May - Oct so be careful.

The point was to find the website, was hoping the OP could narrow it down....im not doing all the heavy lifting

Idk, considering the amount of people on this site that have been to hood, it's way easier to just make a thread and ask for some tips. Beyond that you can find other spots just from being there and driving around, talking to people etc.

Roger that.

I guess cover all the bases

I was wondering why there were so many random cars and RVs on the side of the road when I was there last summer!

I don't know where the staff stayed for the kids camps , I'm assuming onsite some where? The the adult camp coaches and staff stayed at a cabin next to ours in Govy.

lots of camping around there but a lot of the free spots i found were pretty shitty and sus. get to know the locals and im sure you can do better than me and my friends

I mean it's all what you make of it, but if you want a campground go to one. Sure there's ahottier spots and some people trash spots but even the worst spots aren't bad when people don't trash them.

Bring your shit back to where the fuck you came from. There's dumpersters. It's not hard

Yes because doing meth is an involuntary first decision. Wow did I just find your weakness? Drug addicts who are homeless? ??? Jesus you must be a God fearing Christian from the suburbs. No sympathy here and you're a moron. Offer those guys $100k cash and see how many actually turn their life around instead of overdosing. They're not "down on their luck" lmao

You’re a moron for not recognizing obvious sarcasm/trolling? Love that people like you also get off on bashing christians and conservatives without any mention of those things. That’s called bigotry friend. I’m neither christian nor conservative, but you can take your hate somewhere else…
