Honors College?

chunk.

I got accepted into Purdue University for mechanical engineering technology and recently got a letter saying I was invited into the Honors College. After doing some research into it, all I know is I'd have to keep a 3.5 GPA and I would have to take 24 additional credit hours and 19 of which would be honors college elective courses.

Does anyone have any info on honors college in general? Is it worth it? Does it cost much extra? Does it really make you that much more marketable to employers? Do you generally get more individualized attention from professors? How much extra time does it take up?

Any info would be great. Thanks for any help.

Had a bunch of friends who went to all very top level collegs in the honors program. SOO worth it trust me. Yes, they require a lot of work. But the networking access /events is worth it alone.

If you work hard, network, you will make a ton of friends and have a great community. My friends in the honors programs all raged as well and you wouldn't ever know they were genius's.

If I were you I would do it. Most people never get the chance to do that and it opens a ton of doors.

First off, congrats on getting into Purdue, they have a great engineering program. Second, DON'T DO IT. From my experience at Ohio State the honors engineering program is hell and will just hurt your GPA (this may be different for Purdue). Plus companies don't really look at honors or not, so unless you plan on going to grad school it is not worth it. Urban dictionary describes it very well.

I joined mine and even though it takes some extra work you take some classes with better professors that some students never get to learn from and I got to pick my classes before everyone else which trust me is clutch.

OSU engineer here too. I'm a fourth year now and it feels like all the other engineers in my major did honors. I'm so glad I didn't do FEH. sounded like hell.

Thanks for the input guys! I'm going to my guidance counselor soon and I'm going to try to set up a visit with an advisor at Purdue sometime over break.

yes do it. looks good on the resume, your classmates in those classes will be smarter, the professors will generally be better and more helpful.....

i def didnt regret doing it

i didnt go to purdue so idk about the specifics there, your results may vary, but in general my opinion is yes it's a good idea
