Home made steady cams

Alright I am looking into making a steady cam for my film making. Its not for filming skiing so save me the whining about using a handle. I am wondering if anyone has used a steadycam contraption ( bought, rented, or made) and would like some feedback about the good points and the badpoints of using a steadycam. Also if anyone knows of any plans to make one of these I would realy apreciate it.

yah I know... its wierd kuz It used to work but now it dosnt.. maybee someone unistalled it like a douchbag..

anyways I still havnt gotten any opinions or responses from people who have used a system like the steadycam... still looking for those guys, thanks for the input from the doods who posted though, +k
