Holy Balls! $1,000 for the CR pro lab 1080

Yeah I just saw that the CR and probably the Candide are retailing for $1,000. That's so rediculus just because they have the race base so you can go faster they are all most twice what the normal 1080s are. Granted the base is really sweet, Peter was hauling ass passed me at Hood in June and I had a fresh wax job on my skis. But Jesus that's a lot for a little extra speed.

thats prolly just msrp....or another countries prices....it will be considerably lower than that....but they wont be cheap

Yeah I'm sure they will sell for more like $700. I just think the price of skis is getting out of control. Think about it newschool skis are market at us kids. And we have about the least disposable income out of just about any age bracket yet the skis they want us to buy are the most expensive. Thank God I've never paid full price for skis. I've pro ordered ever pair of skis I've ever bought I can't imagine paying retail.

Dude, those are Pro Lab, they are different than the regular CR pros because they have race bases and wood core. Welcome to salomon, you could buy a different ski with wood in them from a diff company and they'd be 500 or you could buy salomons and pay twice as much.

the cr's and candides are both out of the s lab, they are not wood core, they are the same construction they use on their race skis, which is a modified spaceframe/laminate combination, but still not wood core

 
I though all the pro labs had wood in them...oh well, maybe next season. Good luck Salomon, you'll figure it out sooner or later.

Yeah Salomon uses a foam core in all of their skis. It is actually one of the most duarble cores on the market, even better than a lot of wood cores. With their construction they almost don't need a core. Our rep showed us a cool demonstration of standing on top of just the top layer of their skis, can't remember what it's called. But it supported his wieight.

^ Cardboard will support your weight if you shape it properly. It doesn't mean you should make skis out of cardboard, now does it?

At least K2 has the right idea with the price of the Public Enemies and Fujatives.

monocoque, or a load bearing cap. they way they design their skis, you could fill them with jello, and theoretically they would ski the same

 
That 'race base' you speak of is really nothing special. Im sure that slam-on is just putting a decent base on the 1080, they save the good bases for the race sticks.

Vtskier I was actually really impressed with those bases. I skied with Peter O at Hood and even at the end of the day when the snow was super mushy he was still flying on those skis. His friend Andrew and I could never keep up.

And a race base is more easily damaged when it makes contact with things other than snow, like, say, rails. Not to mention that repairs can get to be more involved. But who slides rails, right?

Yeah with race bases you have to wax them like everytime you ride. I do that anyway but it would suck for people who don't have access to that stuff all the time. But I'd heard they were actually harder than normal bases. Not sure though.

Salomon still sucks. They may have a sweet topsheet, but it doesnt do shit when they delam like they are bound to do. And those reps are just filling your head with ideas. I know cause i work at a shop. Salomon still overprices the hell outta everything and doesnt back their product at all. Salomon doesnt give a shit about freeride. as long as their 6 billion employees are making skis, they are happy. Buy from a core company because the newschool companies have many nice pipe skis.

Race base doesn't need to be wax each time you use them and no, it's not more easily damaged on rails... it is a better quality base.. faster, more durable...

I used to ride for salomon and I sed the pipe skis and there some of the best skis I have ever skied on, and that core all of you seem to be experts on is actually better than a wood core cause its lighter and is still as strong I have neevr seen a pair of those skis break plus they have crazy pop
