Holy ajsdf;asdhjf;ajsdhjkfhaeu Tunnels (Urban Exploration)

It's 6:30 AM NS, and I'm about to go to sleep, but I would just like to relay that I found a way into a set of "maintenance tunnels" underneath my university's campus. Super fucking awesome, and really sketchy to get into. I explored them with a friend of mine, and we found lot's of different secret areas as well as many ways to get into buildings from the basement. I feel like this will come in handy some day... But for now, I'm going to sleep. I'm not going to say where I go to school, but if there's anyone else on here from my college they might know what I'm talking about.
Either way, does anyone have any secret "passageways" or abandoned sections of their college/school that they've explored? Urban is awesome, and everyone should go out and try and find all of the little hidden secrets of their community (imo).

That's super sick, My school has tunnels that connect every building on campus but they are well known and padlocked. Since everyone knows about them they say that if you get caught trying to get in them its an instant suspension, so not really worth it.

Not underground. but there is a factory in the next town over where you can get on the roof of. Its a sick lookout over the water, and the building is literally right on the water, so you can jump off the roof into the ocean :) here is a pic

Not sure if it counts, but its a half mile railroad tunnel thats sketchy as hell to walk through, went through it in broad daylight and half way through its so dark you LITERALLY cant see your hand in front of your face. and its like an optical illusion, the end seems like it gets further and further away the farther you go... scary as shit. And the tracks are active so if a train comes you've just gotta run to the walls.
Also, down the tracks about 100 feet from the tunnel theres a really nice 40' or so bridge jump

I have a friend that used to dress up like this:

and go shoot photos in all sorts of crazy old abandonedy factories and stuff, for the sake of taking pictures. His favorite place to go was this crazy old steel factory and a power plant that was used just to power it.

here's a pic of him and some friends underground in a tunnel that eventually led down to where it was so dark there was zero available light (their cameras would attest to it)

it's fun to do. don't get caught.

Sam that's sick... At my school the only really secret thing is away into the very top bell tower.... But that's sorta spread and isn't that secret anymore

This is all great guys! I don't have time at the moment, but I'll post some pictures of my exploration last night (only cellphone pictures unfortunately, for some reason I didn't think of bringing my camera...) soon. I also have pictures from some other places that I've explored that I'll post soon too. Keep it coming, guys!

Bump for dopeness and the fact that im definitely pumped to do some of this this summer, some really nice spots around my area

I got into the maintenance tunnels at my school too. The really, really old sections are cool and there's a lot of graffiti from 40+ years ago.

This place is about 40 minutes away from me, Bethlehem steel works, COLOSSAL steel mill from the early 1900's that closed down a number of years ago...definitely taking a trip or two out there this summer.

Yeah, the tunnels on my campus have some notoriety. they're so obvious where they are because int he winter the ground above them has no snow...but yeah you gotta know people to get into them, or else if you get caught you're fucked...

Yeah I live in Bethlehem within about 5 minutes walking distance of Bethlehem Steel. Don't even bother trying to get in now. Ever since they put in Sand's Casino, they put 20 ft high fences with barbed wire and they have police that patrol it all night. Plus it's lit up at night. I only went once a few years ago and it was beyond sick, but there was little to no security.
Bummer.

There is an abandoned adult occupational center near me that is pretty creepy. My friends and I are planning to visit that soon.

oh fuck this is like that episode of the simpsons where bart finds a whole subway tunner under the city and him and milhouse make tremors and shit

fuccckkkk. Goddamn casino. Oh well i guess ill just have to look elsewhere, anyone know of some good forums or websites for urban exploration type stuff? i know i found a good one with a huge library of spots a few months back but can't think of it now

Bethlehem Steel built all of the steel used the in construction of the Golden Gage Bridge. The plant take up some seven miles of river or something like that.

I used to live near there too! I was just over the hill in Center Valley and I was always fascinated with the factory whenever I'd drive by. I never really thought about exploring though cause I was just a little kid at the time. It's too bad they got the whole thing on lock down now cause it'd be sick to see some pics of the inside.

there was an abandoned hotel in orillia but it burnt down friday night:( never got a chance to get in

Wow, I might have to drive up to your school and check it out. Where did you find your way in?

for the people in the spokane WA area. what about exploring kaiser aluminum? im like 99% sure its shut down, but are there any operations still going on in there, or was it totally shut down when they layed everyone off?

so after some google work i found out kaiser aluminum mead works is officially closed and was sold to a salvager who is now selling anything he can pick off this plant. so i assume its good to explore. i shall be go proing this one for sure.

here the story

link - http://wikimapia.org/1858389/Kaiser-Aluminum-Mead-Works

Story - Though often referred to as a smelter, this was actually a reduction

plant. The process of converting alumina (aluminum oxide) into aluminum

is known as reduction. It's an electrolytic process requiring large

amounts of electrical current to separate the oxygen atom from the

aluminum allowing it to combine with the carbon of the anode to form

carbon dioxide. This plant had 8 potlines that ran in the neighborhood

of 70,000 amps at 650 to 700 volts DC each.

Built in 1941 by the Defense Plant Corp. and operated by Alcoa. After

WWII this plant was declared surplus and bought at a discount by Henry

Kaiser in 1946 when Alcoa was prohibited from bidding to prevent a

monopoly because Alcoa was already embroiled in an anti-trust action.

This reduction plant ran "pre-bake" rather than Soderberg pot-cells and

was completely self-contained with multiple wells and a sewage treatment

plant. The original electrical buss-work in the potrooms was silver.

This was during the war years when copper was needed more elsewhere.

The plant back then was heavily guarded by armed guards. Rumor was that

when the silver was removed and replaced with copper, there was less

than a pound difference in the amount taken out as compared to how much

went in.

The Mead plant ran more or less for 54 years until the energy market

shenanigans brought about by Enron. It was way more profitable to

shutdown and sell on the market the large allotment of power from the

BPA. Kaiser made somewhere around $500 million for this, but the BPA

wasn't happy and when it came time to negotiate the next power contract,

the BPA demanded market value for the power necessary to run the plant.

Since there's no way to make money at reducing aluminum at market rate

for power, Kaiser shut the plant permanently. It has since been bought

by a salvager who's been selling off, salvaging and scrapping

everything worth any money.

sounds like a half scrapped smelter that was open for more than 50 years would be a perfect place to explore this summer. anyone in spokane, hit me up if u wanna check this place out as well.

I f'ed up some of those pretty bad but I don't understand why some of them didn't work^Whatever, I'm a noob I'll admit it. Can I get some help please^

my friend was telling me that there is an abandoned insane asylum about 20 minutes from my house, and there is wicked creepy shit in there like suicide notes painted on the walls and peoples clothes still hanging in the closets

Yea at our school my friends were telling they found a way into a tunnel system that ran to all the buildings. I think its used to transport condensed steam back to the university steam plant. Sounds sketch to me
