Holed up in Tahoe

Anyone holed up in Tahoe today? On a trip currently. We left the dry MN weather to chase some powder. Hopefully Northstar opens up tomorrow so we can take some gnarly runs. Thinking about skiing in the street today though haha.

Unfortunately, if they get what they are expecting it is pretty unlikely anything opens really. 80+ mph winds are expected through Sunday

Where are you staying? There can be some decent rails in places. But travel can shift to difficult/impossible pretty quickly with visibility/crashes/closures.

We are at Club Tahoe, North Lake area.

Thing is, they predicted feet here yesterday and it was like an inch. I mean, it is DUMPING now though. Honestly, we'll have to play it by ear. Locals at northstar were saying it will be doable on Sunday.

We'll have to play it by ear. Plus we have a pretty solid rental car with AWD, snow tires, etc. And if one thing prepared me enough for snow, it's living in Minnesota lol.

I wouldn't be surprised if everythings closed for a while. Northstar holds up decent in winds but the storm right now is gnarly.

Hopefully your trip is long enough to get to sunday/early midweek when things chill out.

Damn do you have the ability to check out other mtns? Check in with Northstar and maybe even Diamond Peak.

Idk. I think it really depends on if the winds stay high through the storm. Good luck though. Hopefully you get at least a decent day in.

We can go to northstar for sure but the epic pass does not work at diamond peak. Worse case scenario we go to diamond and take an L and spend some more money. Gotta do what we can to make the most of the trip. Im definietly skiing street tho.

Plus I can use any unused passes at Afton Alps in MN haha. (That place sucks but whatever. Fuck Vail).

Yeah, these epic storms are not great to pow hunt in Tahoe. Winds usually shut down lifts, they cant keep digging out, and patrol can't keep avy conditions safe. It often takes a day or two after the storm for mountains to open up good terrain. Not to mention roads closing etc. Your better bet is usually to time the back end of a storm.

You can probably keep your eye on Diamond Peaks and Northstars twitter to see what they are opening/when. You can add other resorts if you want to spend more too. Winds could always die off, and you might get an all-time day.

That being said, if anyone knows any good street spots in incline village, let me know asap

Incline Highschool has some good spots. I think you're right next to it. And the SNC campus has some rails! If you go to SNC there is a very solid shot there's homies already seshing.

SNC=UNR lake Tahoe. Forgot they got bought

I just skied the most insane powder I have ever seen. We made it to northstar and winds were minimal actually. Many locals saying it was the most snow they have ever seen haha. Wild time.

Fuck yeah! If you didnt make it in there Martis camp is my favorite lift. Sugar pine glade in there is sick. Nothing huge so you can send anything you see. Fun underrated

zone.

Glad you made it! They do way better for winds but its been so windy at night I wasnt sure if they'd even be able to open. Hope you get a good day in tomorrow before you gotta leave!!

Weird jerries and jaded squaw locals will rip on it and say "flatstar" but I've had some of the best powder days of my life at that mountain. When its good it's good. Deep snow in the open trees is super fun.

Stoked for ya!! We didn't even open at Mammoth today. 100+mph with a gust of 170 last night.

Will definitely check it out, more lifts will def open tmrw. Comstock opened around 1:30 and when we got to the top, that was the most intimidating thing I’ve ever seen. Can say I did it in Vishnu wets, not the most optimal ski for that haha. The pow was up to my waist (I am 6’3” so it was high), absolutely insane.

Martis is pretty good for wind. Comstock is one of the worst. Made it to martis camp via comstock minutes before comstock closed one day and got to rip pow laps that were inaccessible after.

The lift line under the top of comstock is fun if it isn't already beat your first lap. Challenger/follow me has some good turns backside. Also if windy vista has some good trees because it's usually park vibes, not the most ridden.

Also you probably know but be careful of tree wells. Northstar is big for them in the large storms.

Have fun man!!

Hell yeah dude! That's fuckin awesome. Stoked you got to get out after it!
