Hmmmmm......

seems like a good idea but it actually isnt. Flashlights are often stored in drawers or closets or basements for emergency use. In any of these places a solar powered flashlight would be useless. Also whats the perks? Batteries arent expensive and flashlights are used so seldomly that you go through a set of C batteries in 3 years (estimate). Also costs would go up.

In all, seems like a good idea in theory at first, but upon further inspection we should keep flashlights the way they are.
 
every time I find a flashlight it's burnt out, and the drawer is full of old batteries. what we need more of is those wind-up flashlights, and/or rechargeable batteries.
 
Why do you assume you would store a solar powered flashlight in a drawer? That would be idiotic. I went through plenty of batteries in my flashlights back when I used to go camping a lot. Way more than once every three years.
 
I spent like 30 bucks on a decent LED flashlight-uses AAA's and have probably used it 20-25 hours without changing the batteries. Not too shabby, and pretty bright lighting too.
 
i believe the thread creator was shooting for the oxi moron of a flashlight (ment to be used at night) being charged by the sun (not being out at night)
 
For normal household use, flashlights are stored in drawers most often. Youre right this could be a great idea for camping but as far as an emergency flashlight goes i think this would just not be the best idea. I dont think that people would throw the "just in case" flashlight in the window all the time. And your camping thing where you go through pleanty of batteries is also not part of my point. I was speaking on the emergency flashlight that is used seldomly. Camping would be good for this, but in home useage this is impractical.
 
i beleive he ment that the light from the flashlight would shine on the solar power and pwer it so it could run forever. but life is never that simple.
