HMC 150 vs AC 160

Other than price what's the major differences between the hmc and ac? Primarily going to be shooting skiing and skating.

Honestly G, get the hmc. You can do more with an AC (color settings just go a lil more in depth) but the hmc is more reliable as not failing on you. Owen dahlberg bought one with a bunk motor and i know multiple other people’s who burnt out. If you can get a minty one with low hours, i could be good but with how much money you gotta spend air on side of caution and go hmc

Do they both have the in camera color correction?

Its not color correction, its just scene files. You would still need to do shit in post but its good to set them how you want in camera. The hmc dial does not go as in depth as the ac, but the hmc is more reliable as lasting long. Thats the trade off

Awesome thanks!

What about any other camcorders that shot higher quality? Not RED level but a cheaper for user friendly 4K camcorder?

the ac160 shoots 1080p60fps thats the major advantage in overall image resolution, just looks better IMO, the hmc150 is 720p60fps

The hmc shoots 1080 60i but that would look horrible right? I’d like a camera that shoots 1080p 60fps are there any other camcorders that do that other than the AC?

I got the hmc and it’s super sick, pretty much the same cam as hpx170, except it shoots to sd cards. I think you should go with the hmc if you want scene files, so you can be able to chose how you want your clips to look. I feel like the ac160 is a bit plain and boring, but lots of people use it because it shoots in 1080 60p(hmc shoots in 720 60p or 1080 25p/60i), so it’s full hd. Check out videos from child labor or dustbox if you want to see cool scene file settings or vans snow vids for ac160 footy

yeah 1080i is interlaced, equivalent resolution to 540p it does look bad. 1080p24 or 60 looks crispy and much more appealing.

Op a HMC is gonna save u a good amount of cash and the 720 60p looks pretty damn good tbh. Even on my hmc40 the 720/60p with 1/4inch sensors not 1/3inch ccd’s looks good imo. They’re kinda dookie at night but u can make do with a nice light. For the price of used ac160s currently I’d look more at ac30s, or used UX90s/180s or if ur lucky maybe even a hcx1. Biggest downside with the ac30 is the small filter size :/

Are those camera used listed better than the hmc 150

They all shoot full HD (1080 60p) i believe a few shoot 1080 120p also. The UX90 shoots 4k @ 24 and 30p , the ux180 and hcx1 shoot 4k @60p and have 1inch mos sensors. There’s also the ac90 which is basically a older ac30 and has the same small filtering so won’t fit as nice of a fisheye. All have Panasonics scene files and shoot to SD cards, have rocker & zoom rings, gain and white balance adjustments, manual iris’s along with many other features you’d expect/ want a on a prosumer. I recommend looking around and seeing what the prices are on all of those used. You may find that you can get a more up to date 4K or full HD cam at the price of the AC160 or maybe even a HMC if you wait/look hard enough
