Hitting Higher Rails?

I can hit rails that are level to the kicker but I would like to hit higher rails that require you to come from the side but I'm not completely sure how I would do this. Next snow storm I'm going to put some of my rails up higher in the backyard and try it but any tips for me?

Pop. Ollie if it's even higher.

You're gonna come on from the side, so you have to kinda neutralize your sideways motion. Remember to look at the end of the rail. You'll get it eventually if you keep trying. It's how I learned and I find it easier than getting on to the rail with it between your legs.

He, means that you come up to the rail on the side. then you lift up one ski(i use my back ski) step on and turn while doing this.

When doing that should I go slow or go decently fast?

I'd go fairly slow if i were you, wouldn't want to catch the front of your other ski on the front of the rail while trying to step up, however in my opinion i wouldn't use the step up method, when i hit my first few rails which were all above kicker level i just went for it, pop hard look at where your gonna land on the rail and then switch your vision to the end of the rail, Good luck!

Start low and work your way up. I would try to avoid stepping as sometimes it becomes a crutch for people that's harder to get rid of than just learning. If you can slide down rails it's not bad.

Basically when you set a low down rail up, a lot of times the point where you land is actually the same height or only slightly higher than the takeoff. IF you carry some speed you'll travel even farther down. The shorter the length of the rail the better. IF you have something like 8' that's perfect. Then when you hit it you're kind of just tapping the end. Getting comfortable landing on it from the side, if you get off balance you're sliding for such a short time a lot of times you'll land before you'll fall.

If it's super low you won't have to pop much and can focus on getting yourself fully committed to getting sideways and being balance so you don't slip out.

Granted I suck at skiing now and can't can only hit mellow, low down stuff and flat stuff right now.

But I think that's still semi valid advice.

Go faster, step on to the rail then eventually you will diminish that and go on cleanly

wouldnt recommend this at all. Its a bad habit, and it isnt just ugly. It also can knock your balance off a little bit. Did this when i started to do rails, changed to a pop and it went a lot smoother and my balance became better.

Go faster than a low rail so that you won't need to pop as high. Go on the side that has your back foot closest to the rail.

For me I step on back foot first but it's all preference. Just try not to pop over the rail into an accidental tailpress, that's a bitch.
