Hitching to snow park

How easy is it to hitch to snow park, from wanaka? I've just arrived in wanaka yesterday and am looking for a place/job etc. I have heard that it is easier to get a bunch of people together and buy a car for cheap.

However if I end up in a house with people not interested in snow park, how easy is it to hitch there?

On a side note if anyone needs a room mate till september time, hit me up.
