depends where. as long as you dont have too much shit, are patient, and look clean, you should be fine. i've done it, and it worked fine. granted, it was winter, and there was a conga line of cars headed to the mountains.
Yes. Make sure it is obvious you have skis, any skier will pick you up. To better your chances even more, make a sign that says, "I carry no lethal weapons and will not attempt to murder you".
The thought that a hitchhiker might kill you is a turnoff for most drivers.
I met this English teacher in France who said one of his hobbies was hitchhiking and that he hitchhiked across Canada and Russia, we all looked at him like he had 2 heads. Apparently it's pretty legit, go for it and write us a detailed trip report, assuming you survive!
what states/provinces are you going throughYou get arrested for it in some states.
but if you're going to like whistler from vancouver or somewhere to Hood you're probably fine.Go have an adventure.
I was cruising down the highway near my hometown last year, and saw a 16 year old with a huge backpack and skateboard hitch hiking. I turned around picked him up in fear of some weirdo picking him up. He was hitching 50+ and I drove him the rest of the way to his destination. You could be as lucky.
only time I hitch hike is back from the ski hill your not gona get many psycos comming from the hill. hitch hiking too the hill could be a little scetchy specially by yourself I probly wouldn't do it
That sucks that things are like that now when you can't even hitch-hike. I worked with this old guy once and he told me how he hitch hiked from saskatchewan to Kelowna everyear and never had any problems.
I had to hitch hike twice 2 weeks ago after a buddy and I ended up on the wrong side of the mountain after hiking.
As long as you are clean cut and look nice, and have a clear intention (skis, hiking backpack etc.) then you will most likely be picked up in a town that is heavily into the according activity you seem to be participating in.
Hitchhiking really isn't that bad. If you have sports equipment of any kind it makes it even easier to get a ride. If you're going down a major highway it's really easy to get picked up by a trucker and you can sometimes go halfway across the country in one ride.
That's what I get for not really reading the thread.
I guess it will be a bit more difficult since less people with understand the situation, but I think overall you should be set, you just might have to wait for a bit.
i picked up a dude driving to upstate ny from the city. had a nice convo, was a legit dude. he bailed at my exit anyway, so i think it's cool. what are the odds of a phsyco pickin you up anyway? better chances getting mauled by a bear while being struck by lightning...
