uhh well i know once i went up the lift with some old dude who claimed to burn the back of his skis upwards to ski backwards

Yeah... There were twins in the 70's I heard. But only a couple and very few were sold. Most of the official history of twins as we know them begins circa 1995. There's information all over the web.

first modern twin was the K2 Poacher. that was like in 97/98?

the 1080 began development, bout the same time as the poacher hit the racks, with this whack ass thing called the air carver, at the same time line was doin the skiboard thing and the osteness dragons and white 1260s started goin the same season as the first production 1080s, 98-99. k2 also revamped the poacher, and it evolved into the Enemy. from there the rest is pretty easy.

but yes, the classic example of the first "twintip" is the Olin Mark IV. they are still very popular.

i would say this is kinda a weak assignment, but it may be ok depending on your grade level. what would be cool, is to lay out a timeline of sorts, with the growth of twins, to where back then there were 3-4 production skis, and nowadays theres easily close to 100 different twin tip skis that are available. you could tie that together with factual data that supports the growth of the freestyle skiing segment, and even how it is taking sales from snowboarding.
