wanna get a six month somewhere for the season and would rather live in a more relaxed enviroment than a ritzy upscale area. any ideas preferably in cali or utah

california - i guess you could try the truckee area? not really hippy or ritzy. same goes for mammoth lakes. both are cool places with great skiing, not sure if they are "hippy" though.

ya word up, my buddy and his girlfriend went down to bc for the summer they said the scene is unreal down there supper chill and everyone is supper friendly

Nelson for sure.

Very relaxed town, sweet downtown area, sweet parties, sweet hill gets a sweet upgrade. As stated, Red is an hour drive away. Such a fun hill there too.

I like it, but I wouldn't move there. just my opinion.

Nelson for sure though.

stratton, vermont. everyone up here is just basically starving for money and super non-stuck up. plus the park is awesome.
/sarcasm

My only experience here involved a firework battle and burning mattresses & road signs... errrrr. Maybe its different in the winter?

nice, thanks for all the feedback, im thinkin about kings beach tahoe. my friends brother lives there and hes tryin to get out there for a few years to go to sierra nevada college. seems pretty legit up their .

colorado is tryin so hard to keep the cowboy/bum theme going its ridiculous. to the point where its a joke.

i would say nelson. or somewhere in montana if you have to stay in the US. that place is reeaaal.

yeah nelson!! i just moved here and as far as hippy... well, i work for an organic tea company, and my roommate is in a marching travelling percussion band.....

you look into shasta? back in the day that place might have been more awesome, its pretty touristy now though

1. Move to a town called Georgetown Colorado and work at Loveland ski area. Chillest place I have ever skied.
2. Keystone CO is very chill also. Chill to work and to live. Way layed back.
3. Jackson WY, I love that place. They have a place where you can go eat and its BYOB. AWESOME.
4. Pretty much anywhere in Summit County Colorado.
I know those are not Cali or UT but just figured I would give you that. UT is pretty strange. Too many mormons.

the idea that the mormons here are fun patrol and zoom around looking to banish all who partake in illicit activities is retarded. i've had a blast here, along with everyone i know who's lived here.

I have been living in steamboat springs colorado for just over a year now. There are a ton of hippies here but not so many of the locals my age are hippies. mostly the college kids from colorado mountain college alpine campus (where i go to school). also there is a great medical marijuana community if your into that.

I really liked living in Winter Park, very chilled scene, lots of smoke shacks on the Mary Jane side, lots of old school skibum bump skiers and a decent park too. Think it may be getting a bit more corporate though, not been for a few years.

Crested Butte is absolutely the chillest ski town in Colorado. We do not try super hard to stay core unlike places like Telluride. CB is a very chill/local friendly town that has not been blown up with development like most Colorado ski towns. Some of the best terrain and easy backcountry access in the world too.

Durango is pretty hippy. 2 hours from telluride. One and a half from wolf creek. 20 min from purgatory. Little over an hour from silverton. And there's a shit ton of back country in southern CO.

why aren't more people saying telluride? is no one aware one of their congressman is a dirty stinkin hippy?

chillest town I have ever been to, way more than any of the ones listed above.

anyone know anything about the north lake tahoe area. seems like thats where im gonna end up. dont know of many ppl saying bad things but i dont really know much about it

Breckenridge. Put your name on craigslist and find a place cheap. Free transportation. Get a job at the mountain and get an epic pass.
...weed's legal. /thread

Breck is really chill. Super nice people, anywhere in Summit County. You could live in Breck's employee housing... it's actually pretty nice. And if you work for Vail Resorts you get a free pass like he said ^.

Ashland is definitely a hippy town, but I would NEVER choose it for my home mountain.
A lot of the locals are tools, and tried to fight a bunch of my buddies after a rail jam.
Gov camp is soo much cooler, last time i stayed in govy, I got smoked out by my hotel clerk, and most the locals seem chill as hell.

i love tahoe dude. again, i wouldn't really call it "hippy," but it's definitely a great place. lots of cool locals, great skiing (squaw, alpine, homewood, sugar bowl, northstar, boreal)

some areas are a bit ritzy, but it's great. tahoe is a blast in the summer too. where exactly in north tahoe would you be staying? truckee?

telluirde for sure..not mountain village but the town of telluride still feels like the hippy/mining town it used to be. and you are also next to some of the best terrain in colorado.. telluride is where its at for sure

i was a lifty there and its probably one of the most laid back work atmosphere out there. as for a town, not much except the peruvian lodge or goldminers daughter for bars, but everyone knows each other so its pretty fun, alot of the guys who i worked with went down to the tram club at the cliff lodge. sadly, i was 18 so, i was stuck in the buckhorn and awaited the taunts when they got back lol

Whoever said summit county is wrong.
Telluride doesn't have a single chain store, I think the butt is the same way.

Ski grand targahee or jackson. I would recommend Montana but the locals are to pretentious about their snow.
