Hip Protection

So last season, and this summer, my hips took a beating, largely on rails. And when I say a beating, I'm talking about dinner-plate sized bruises, the inability to wear jeans because my thigh was too swollen, trouble sitting, standing and walking, all of that. So I'm looking for armor that will help me. I want something very low-profile that will allow me to wear my same pants (and wear them pretty low) but still offer protection. I'm looking at the:

Poc VPD shorts

R.E.D. Total Impact shorts

Demon Force Flex Pro Low shorts

among others, and I am open to other suggestions. Can anyone offer me any insight on any of these products: if they're good, if they suck, why they're good, why they suck, etc.?

my friend had the same problem but not as bad. he just started wearing a old hockey girdle that was too small to actually play hockey in. they are basically padded boxers cause they are really small
