Hip Hop Today vs Lyrical Hip Hop

Alright NS, let's have a healthy discussion on the subject.

Now normally I don't start threads just to talk crap about people, but the direction hip hop is going is frustrating as hell. There used to be a time where I would argue with my friends who the better rapper was between two lyrical geniuses, and it would pretty much come down to personal preference. Now I can't decide who is the worst is between, lil uzi, lil yachty, lil pump, kodack, 69, trippie red, etc.

What the hell is going on? This is literally the worst XXL freshman freestyle class I have ever seen.

Nas is the best rapper ever in my opinion. His whole flow and whatnot is fucking amazing. I dont listen to a bunch of hip hop and when I hear shit like lil yachty and that poor excuse for a human sixbinine or whatever I cringe. Idk. Maybe I'm just old and not hip anymore.

Not everyone listens to music for some woke, deep, lyrical shit. A lot of times they just want some fun music to bump to or to have playing in the background. Its really not that hard to understand and its not like every rapper is like Lil Pump. Plenty of lyrical rappers out today still making music

^Cypress Hill is a good example of some fun rap that you can just put on to chill. They're a current group with new music dropping next week so Cypress Hill is Hip Hop Today. As for the lil's I have never heard any of the rappers listed in the OP so probably not as good. Lil Wayne has that Truffle Butter which is a fun track so not all lil dude music is bad I guess.

There have always been a lot of b grade rappers that are not really worth listening to if they're not in your immediate friend group so I don't think this has changed.

Rap/hip hop today that is mainstream is quite awful and annoying to listen to. Yeah I'm talking about the shit some of you yungins blast through your portable speakers in the lift lines. This new style that everyone is trying to emulate is irritating. The late 80' through 90's and early 2000's were the best eras imo.

Seen a few edits lately where the song choice sucked. It’s like the “rapper” just shot up some heroin and isn’t reading weak ass Dr. Seuss style rhymes.

Idk. I like edits with old school rap and tall ts and mad style. I dislike (but still appreciate) new wave edits. I guess I’m just trapped in 2009.
