Highly degraded IQ when exporting from FCP

That's how I prefer to do it as well. I like everything over a 23.98fps timeline because to me that looks best. Since OP wants everything in a 29.97fps timeline, he needs to make sure everything is consistent.

huh, no way :P well thanks for the info! will the change make a noticeable difference in the final video quality?

No, it will save you a ton of HD space thought.

OP, do what landis said, your timeline should be 1980x1080 no 1280x1080 that is like an interlaced HD setting.

Whenever I change my sequence settings to 1920x1080, It just switches back to HDTV 1080i without me doing anything.

once again not reading it all,

but wouldn't just dropping your clips into your timeline and have it set your sequence settings to match your clips alleviate all this mess?

Mike cant quote because im on mobile, but Yeah, which leads me to the interlaced setting. Then when i say i dont want to match the sequence settings, it still goes back to the interlaced setting.

so what you're saying is that if you match the sequence settings you get an interlaced image, and when you don't match sequence settings, you still get an interlaced image?

well that sounds like you shot interlaced then? i don't even know if you can even shoot interlaced, so i am confused. matching the sequence setting to my clip has never failed me

If that's what works for you, definitely get on it. Adobe is a steal considering you can get all their programs for $300. I'm the opposite; I always have problems with Premiere.

I will probably download the trial when i have time. I do like how AE is intergrated with it, but i do like color.

this. color is pretty solid i think and thats what keeps me in the FCP package, plus soundtrack pro has some potential but ive not quite figured out the best way to do that yet either. but the after effects to premiere is so solid

i'm having some issues as well, so i'm gonna try this. just one question, how/where do i go to do this?
