how many of you actually tried in high school&how far did you get with your efforts
i feel like i try too hard for the joke that everyone makes high school out to be and need to take it down a notch
 
I've blown off highschool big time. But im hoping to get my act together to be better in Community College so I can transfer to a 4 year
 
I gave 0 fucks about hstook a year off and fucked around europe

As long as you get good grades and AP credit, neither of which are hard, colleges jump on your dick pretty willingly
 
i guess i should have tried more in high school, my gr 12 english grade wasnt good enough for universities so i had to redo it.

but when i finally got there i was more mature, which i think was worth it in hindsight.

Well I'm only in Grade 9, but I try my hardest. In grade 7 and 8 I got the gold medal with an A+ average, and thats what I am hoping to get this year. In grade 7 I got the ELA gold medal with the highest mark in Grade 7, 8, and 9 and the gold medal for Science in grade 8.
 
One piece of advice I can give you is to pay attention in English class. It is your most important class. The only other important class is math class if you are going into business, science, or engineering.

 
I wish I had tried harder. If I had the same study habits in highschool as I do now (which really aren't even that great) I'd be a straight A student, and could have had a much larger selection of colleges. Oh well, I'm happy where I've ended up.
 
Definitely trying my hardest in high school and college. I want to work as hard as i can so i can support a family and be happy with my job, cause let's be honest. You can't ski forever
 
Didnt really try hard. If i knew I would pass a test I wouldnt study, would do all my homework at lunch or in study hall. Maintained all As and Bs, i think 2 Cs. Took a few honors classes and ap physics. Depending on who you are will be how much effort you will have to put into good grades.
 
didn't try for shit. like i did everything i w as wanted to, but senior year i don't think i studied for one test. I mean i didn't not give a shit like some retards but i made sure i did enough to get by sufficiently and got into every school i applied too.

looking back i feel like if i actually tried hard i would've gotten into yale/harvard

The kid takes pride in his grades, let him be. If anything the stuff he learned in middle school will help him a lot when he gets to highschool. There are so many kids who are so used to not trying that they develop shitty habits and end up doing shitty in high school.
 
Passing high school is based on your ability to bullshit homework, tests, and papers. If you can write a 5 paragraph essay, pass algebra 1, and learn how to take multiple choice tests, you will be fine. I don't think I ever once studied for a test in hs, not even finals. I got a 3.6 junior year and a 3.8 senior year. I got decent act scores and now go to my #1 school of choice.
 
I fucked around frosh/soph year, but got my shit together junior year and now (senior year) I have a 4.0. I was able to turn it around just in time for college apps which was nice.
 
I'm only in year 9 too, and up until now at least it has been unbelievably easy to piss my way through all the work that is given to me and come out on top or second best in classes. Keep in mind I'm one of the stereotypical overachievers.I understand I will have to put some effort in when I hit 11-12 but it's pretty smooth sailing 'till then. Any one who complains high school is too hard (Which is probably very few) is just kidding themselves.
 
Honestly, I didnt try too hard up until junior and senior year. And even then, the only reason I had to try was because of some major medical issues. I got all A's, but my mom was a teacher so I kind of had to... But like these guys are saying I feel high school is more social than anything. If your keeping As and Bs youll be straight. Get a decent ACT and youll get into most any school you want, just dont miss out on life because youre focusing on grades. Really worry about grades when you get to college if you want to go to a professional program.
 
High school is really about learning how to do the least work and get the most out of it. I didnt really study that hard but when I had to I did the work and it worked out great for me
 
The secondary education system (NCEA) in NZ is a joke. Basically, you need 80 credits per year to pass (the second and third level years only require you to get 60 since 20 credits get carried over from the previous year if you pass it). You still get grades, but it all comes down to how many credits you've earned.

Some examples to show how you need to be either completely retarded or have zero work ethic to fail:

12 credits if you can drive a tractor (agriculture)

8 credits if you can catch a chicken (agriculture, not joking)

8 credits if you can swim 3 lengths of a pool in a certain (stupidly long) amount of time (P.E)

6 credits if you can roll a kayak (P.E)

Many others, cant think right now. But ive saved the best for last, this ones a doozy:

60 credits if you work at either KFC or Subway for 6 months.

That's right people. New Zealand - where you can pass school by working at KFC.

Another thing. Each year, a month or so before end of year exams, we have mock (practice) exams...which are actually the real exam papers from the year prior. So, get friendly with someone who you know did well on the papers you're doing, borrow their exam papers, memorize/write down the answers, go to mock exam, tell the school you have a family emergency when your real exams come round (in this instance the school uses the marks you got from your mocks for your final grade), profit. You now have a stress free summer!

To the kids who are cruising through school giving no fucks though, start doing some work. Im sure its not as easy to pass in the states as it is here, but not using your brain now will bite you in the ass later on. I wish i had put more effort in at school; luckily im quite intelligent, and i exercised my mind by other means. This may sound silly, but i think actually formulating decent work ethic and time management is more important in the long run overall than the stuff you learn in the classroom. First year of uni made me realize that. So put in some effort, you'll thank yourself down the road.

So yeah, luckily for me and my buddies we weren't retarded and had SOME work ethic, which allowed us to surf our school years away whilst passing with minimal effort. I miss high school.
 
Im like at a 4.2 and im stoked I tried, I mean you have to be there anyway. Might as well work hard and leave with some profit.
 
i should have tried harder. i'm going to graduate on time and still most likely get into the school i want to go to, but that's mostly because i write a VERY good essay and have recommendations from some very respectable people. my grades for the last three quarters of my senior year are/will be mostly a's and b's, however before this point i was a c and d student because i frankly didn't care. there was a time during the second half of my sophomore and first have of my junior year that i got amazing grades, but i was in private school and that's a much better setting for me. honestly, high school is fucking easy. i put in a VERY minimal amount of effort and still get great marks on every test and quiz, and the homework really isn't all that much. anybody who's in eighth or ninth grade and reading this, put the tiny amount of effort in that it requires to get good grades in high school, because it will pay off.
 
i went to an expensive private prep school and on a relative spectrum at that school i really didn't work very hard freshman through junior year. i had around an 87 average and that took minimal effort despite the fact that it was a really hard school. then i didn't get into a college i wanted to go to, so senior year i decided to take a gap year and reapply and everyone said my senior year grades would be the most important, so i worked harder and got a 93 average and i worked my ass off in rowing and my boat got 3rd at nationals and now i'm studying in oxford for a semester and i have 3 A* and i get to go to brown next year
 
yaaaa i think i tried a little too hard in high school. i still got into college and my grades are still the same. i should have had more fun in high school. but now that i'm gone i don't miss it at all.

high school is game. The objective do as little as possible to mantian a passing grade and keeping your parents content enough to keep driving you skiing. which for me(im in grade 11 at private school) is jack shit, i don't understand how these people spend so much time studying

yeah, im currently try hard, but i think its also really important to not just do school but do extra stuff like clubs and sports and stuff
 
Tried real hard, got into the college I wanted to go to (CU - Boulder).

In college, I tried hard also, but I could have done better. I got a job and all, but I ended up hating it and it's possible that with a better GPA I would have ended up better off. Doesn't matter much at this point because I'm going for a master's but still - I'll be working as hard as I possibly can and trying to secure the highest GPA I'm capable of because that shit absolutely does matter in the real world.

I'm 24, so I've been through high school and college and I will sincerely tell you - DO YOU BEST IN SCHOOL, no matter what level you're at. It's important, and it will impact your life very seriously. The people who think it's "not cool" to try hard in school or to do well academically pay the price later on in life. Not to preach too much, but for real guys and girls - give it your all. Years down the road you'll be really happy that you did.

the first two years dont matter, its true. but if you start developing shitty habits and doing really shitty in classes because you know it doesnt matter, you will be fucked. The last 2 years will determine what colleges/universities you will get into, and that is a big deal in determining (to some extent) how the rest of your life might pan out .

So have fun, have a good social life, make friends, go party your ass off. But you gotta know when it becomes important, and have a level head.
 
Usually if you are asking this question it means you are doing badly and are looking for a way to rationalize that fact.

Its really not that hard to get decent grades, and with most people if you are super lazy in high school, you will probably be the same in college.
 
I tried until midway through grade 10, then just stopped caring. I graduated with an 84% average doing 0 homework and not much during classes. It was such a joke.
 
I dropped out in grade 7. Life has been going good so far, I import coffee beans from Columbia and sell them to local coffee shops for a 7% profit. People judge me but I don't really care

But really highschool is a fucking joke. Just have fun. Find some good friend, don't fail, and you're golden. Fuck all the bullshit drama and other dumb shit in highschool.
 
i take all honors and AP classes and i somehow manage to get straight A's without giving a fuck. i mean i study for tests a little and do homework when necessary, but aside from that i don't try very hard. just do your best without letting school control your life.

5) Find a good friend and the two of you need to not give a shit about anyone else or what anyone thinks of you, do dumb stuff, not dumb like act funny, dumb like have unprotected sex with 3 girls a week, something you will look back on and be like, damn, i wish i didn't get all those std's, but def worth it because high school is high school, let me stress what high school means, high like getting high and school like learn how, so therefore you must certainly find a good friend and run train on all the girls, pick on all the jocks, and when they try to beat you up, make sure you and your friend have pepper spray, because it is legal to carry, then again for me i was the biggest kid in school so no one picked on me, and i would wear a suit and tie to school because i could
