High school sports

So I'm going into high school this coming school year and am trying to decide on some sports. In Junior high I played football, soccer, and wrestled. I know I'm not going to wrestle in high school because it will take away from the ski season, but my question is are sports as fun as people say they are in high school. Does anybody regret not playing sports?

The more sports that you play the cooler you will be and the more bitches you will have givin' you gnob gobblers.

High School Fact #1

Sports are only cool if you are good at them. Being the worst kid on the Varsity football team doesn't get poon. Just be good at what you do and it'll all work out.

'tis true. good luck trying to convince kids skiing is cool, unless you're in a ski town, and even then people don't give a shit if you're a good skier.

wrestling's a ton harder in high school, it worked out well for me though. It's just as fun for sure, but the level is upped. Not sure what it's like in Illinois though...

At my school I hate doing sports even though I just do fall soccer its not very fun because the coaches even for JV or freshmen teams take it seriously and practice is everyday for 2 and a half hours. But at least its not football. LOL

playing golf for the school team is the best man, everyone else bitches about having practice after school, running and douchebag coaches and shit. while i get to play free golf everyday

i did cross country in highschool and i can honestly say i hated it, the coach was a total chode and most of the other kids doing it were assholes.

playing football will make you popular if you're good at it. then you don't even have to worry about your grades because everyone will think you are cool.

footballs good if you enjoy skiing, but if you do basketball you still have time to ski, and you get to stare at ass because the vb season is during football, so football players dont get to go to vb games, but basketball players have a chance to go to the vb games and stare at ass, if that sums it up enough for you and your young mind i think i have done my job.

Golf is seriously the shit. Getting to play baller expensive courses for free while every other team has to run is a blast. Plus golf is pretty sweet ya know.

Actually fuck my first response that shits lame.

You should play the fun sports, not any of this serious jock mumbo jumbo.

Ultimate frisbee, badminton, tennis, ski team, any clubs, pretty much everything is better than football or basketball.

Link.: I also never played sports in highschool and was touched by my gym teacher in the shower. But that doesn't matter, look at me now!!!

Vibes man, vibes.

Are you one of the best at either? If not I would say fuck it. You won't be getting noticed, and They take up a ton of time.

If your school has a ski team,...JOIN IT. It's worth the free pass, but the only thing you have to worry about is dryland training and bashing into gates while training slalom and GS. Plus you can ski at night (most likely) during the midweek.

Outside of skiing, join the track team and throw shotput and discus. Either way, there's little running and there's weight lifting mixed in with throwing.

Just do football if you're good at it. It takes up a ton of time but its not really hard to get good if you're mediocre. Idk if the kids that play at your school are chill but i know at my school you can take it as seriously or as un-seriously as you want. Do track to if you're any good at skiing cause youll most likely be good at shit like high and long jump maybe get some sprinting in there, thats what im doing anyways. IT all works out pretty nice

Honestly track was one of the greatest things ever. Go to meets with literally hundreds of girls your age with short shorts on, hang out for 5 hours with about a half hour of actually doing things, and talk to girls the entire time you would never talk to otherwise. Twas an awesome time.

join a sport that will actually get you in good physical condition and put you in good habits of exercising. When you leave grade school if you lose those habits you get fat and when you get fat you get unhappy. so if I were to make a decision that would affect the rest of my life I would say do sports that form active habits.

Not playing sports my freshman and sophomore year is the biggest regret i have in high school. Play football regardless of how good you are at it. Don't look at high school as a social thing. Join sports and put in as much as you can into practices and games. You can't mosey on through sports not putting in work and expect to be good at it.

If you put in the hard work you will get good and you will have more fun. And depending on how big your high school is, sports are a great way to meet new people.

GO FOR IT OP

Agreed, especially if you have an awesome golf team full of friends. I also played ice hockey and skied (with ski/snowboard club). Both ice hockey and throwing down in front of the snow bunnies skiing got the poon though.

Right here OP

high school sports in canada sucked for the most part.

played hockey, ran track and cross country... and the track / cross country teams were by far the best. no one really gave a shit about hockey, we'd have like 5 people watching our games (though i hear in the states, especially places like MN and IL, they go nuts about high school puck). Track and cross country were super chill, miss a full day of class once a week to go sit around for hours and shoot the shit, chat up girls you'd normally never see from who knows where, then run for 7km tops.

I found they are also great for staying in shape, obviously won't build muscle or whatever but your fitness will definitely improve.

mostly though, just do the sports you want to do, as long as they're track and cross country.

THIS would be unreal to be a part of in high school, I have to say...

I just started doing track this year and I'm honestly having a really good time. Pole vaulting is the tits, it's so much fun.

If you're school doesn't have a men's volleyball they legally have to allow you to play on the woman's team. Title IX works both ways, if girl's can participate in football, men can participate in women's volleyball.

Probably depends if you enjoy playing team sports.

Personally, being on a team is probably the biggest thing I missed in college after high school. But then I love soccer and pretty much all of my good friends played too, and even the kids I didn't know as well on the team I still got along well with, so I never minded practice or anything since it was just more time to hang out with friends. And my coaches, while pretty intense and not afraid to work us hard, were ultimately really good guys.

I've always wondered if this was the case. I've heard from people that the reason that most places don't have men's volleyball is that schools have to have the same number of men's and women's sports, and since football is a men-only sport, then they have volleyball as a women-only sport to even it out.

I was captain of my high school ski team, and I also ran track. Also for one year I was also captain of my dive team but went back to skiing after I ruptured my ear. Playing sports in high school doesn't make you cooler, and I wouldn't really say it was fun It kind of just gave me something to do.

And there are a ton of super good looking pole vaulters. Go to a pole vault camp (skyjumpers) and you will be amazed

Don't waste ur time playing football un less u know ur better than 75% of the kids. I started quarterback freshman year, but I was behind a kid in my grade who started JV. In the end dont play unless u know u are good or it's a huge waste of time. Don't forget about winter, spring, and summer after school lifting. Our program has full year lifting and pretty much slot of programs do the same. The commitment is huge

i recommend playing a major sport just for freshman year like football or track even if you dont play you will meet alot of new people. i know me and a couple friends decided to play hockey freshman year we only one a few games in our career but we had a blast and our coaches were chill. just have fun with it

OP play golf you will not regret it. Play every nice course around you for free, and you can get better at a sport you can play for your whole life.

i was an above average player in 3 sports going into highschool. Quit them all and have no regrets. Not that I didnt like the sports but High School politics ruined baseball football and basketball for me

does your state/city have a NICA high school mountain bike team? join that shit boi. What state are you from

I'm from iowa but ski in Illinois. There's no mountains here l, just hills. The only type of mtn. Biking we can do is xc/cross country

Yes, XC is what I meant. I am from MN. Yeah Iowa obviously doesn't have a NICA league. That stinks though, move to MN

I just did as many as I could fit into my schedule. Most of the time playing on a sports team meant getting out of class and getting in the good books with school staff / coaches / teachers.

The sports I enjoyed the most were the ones that I were playing with my best friends, so take that into consideration as well!

The three that took the most of my time in high school were hockey, rugby, and indoor/outdoor track.

I started playing lacrosse freshman year and it was the best decision I ever made, its given me opportunities to see places i wouldn't have other wise plus 7 grand off my tuition every year
