Im being Gnartron. Saw this on the news right now

(CNN) -- Cargo planes and trucks in several U.S. cities were inspected Friday after investigators found suspicious packages in at least two locations abroad, law enforcement sources with detailed knowledge of the investigation said.

U.S. officials believe that al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, commonly referred to as AQAP, is behind the plot.

One suspicious package, found in the United Kingdom, contained a "manipulated" toner cartridge but tested negative for explosive material, the source said. It led to heightened inspection of arriving cargo flights in Newark, New Jersey, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and a UPS truck in New York.

The package had white powder on it as well as wires and a circuit board, a law-enforcement source said; someone shipped it from Sanaa, Yemen, with a final destination of Chicago, Illinois. A similar package has been discovered in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, the source said.

Investigators were looking for a "possible nexus to terrorism," a U.S. official said.

Since when do modified toner catridges get used for bombs?
Last I heard, it was all about syringes and tubes full of toothpaste and shampoo.

one time i cut myself pretty bad trying to get a stubborn toner cartridge out a copier, i like slipped on it and hit this metal piece in there (paper guide or some shit) it like fuckin lacerated the palm of my hand. its a good thing they stopped those things from getting to the U.S. i dont wanna cut my fucking hand again.

well what was the powder? (my guess is just dry battery acid or something) could be anthrax though

or it could be baking soda.

obviously it's nothing serious or the US would be on terror level Red with seven stars next to it.

Fuck now im going to get the monthly 'be careful' call from the British embassy. Shits getting old after living in Dubai for 16 years

WASHINGTON (AP) - Authorities on three continents thwarted multiple terrorist attacks aimed at the United States Friday, seizing two explosive packages addressed to Chicago-area synagogues and packed aboard cargo jets from Yemen. Parts of the plot might remain undetected, President Barack Obama's counterterror chief warned.

Obama called the coordinated attacks a "credible terrorist threat" amid worldwide fears that al-Qaida was launching a major new campaign of assaults.

"The United States is not assuming that the attacks were disrupted and is remaining vigilant," Obama adviser John Brennan said at the White House.

One of the packages was found aboard a cargo plane in Dubai, the other in England. In the U.S., cargo planes were searched up and down the Eastern Seaboard, and an Emirates Airlines passenger jet was escorted down the coast to New York by American fighter jets.

No explosives were found aboard those planes, though the investigation was continuing on at least two.

Obama's sobering assessment, delivered from the White House podium, unfolded four days before national elections in which discussion of terrorism has played almost no role. The president went ahead with weekend campaign appearances.

The terrorist efforts "underscore the necessity of remaining vigilant against terrorism," the president said. While he said both packages that contained explosives originated in Yemen, he did not explicitly assign blame to al-Qaida, which is active in the Arab nation and long has made clear its goal of launching new attacks on the United States.

Authorities in Dubai intercepted one explosive device. The second package was aboard a plane searched in East Midlands, north of London, and officials said it contained a printer toner cartridge with wires and powder. Brennan said the devices were in packages about the size of a breadbox.

While the president didn't specifically accuse Yemen's al-Qaida branch, officials who spoke on condition of anonymity said they were increasingly certain that was the source. The same group was responsible for the attempted bombing of a U.S.-bound airliner last Christmas.

The radical U.S.-born Muslim cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, who now lives in hiding in Yemen, is believed to have helped inspire recent attacks including the Fort Hood shooting, the Times Square bombing attempt and the failed Detroit airliner bombing last Christmas Day.

Most of the officials spoke on condition of anonymity, citing the ongoing investigation.

Brennan later told reporters that the explosives "were in a form that was designed to try to carry out some type of attack," but he provided no further details.

"The forensic analysis is under way," he said, adding, "Clearly from the initial observation, the initial analysis that was done, the materials that were found in the device that was uncovered was intended to do harm."

Well the whole panic omg lets panic approach is even more dummerer. But seriously terror levels are at an all time high. Don't leave your house, there is guaranteed to be an attack in every city today. Terror level went from red to fuchsia

Word, that's what I was thinking. They are doing a "dry run" to see what they can get away with and where they can ship from and to.

I dunno, you have to make a pretty fucking suspicious package to actually have it be pulled aside. I knew a kid who was shipping half key boxes from florida to london weekly via fedex for more than a year, and he never got caught. The speed at which a package travels through most processing centers means that even if there are drugs or explosives in them, by the time a dog or something caught the scent, the box would be hundreds of yards off. As long as it passes initial inspections wherever the package is dropped off, its good to go.
