Are you aware of the fact that your the only western country without government run health care?

Just wondering.

PS: If I got injured or needed medical care in any way, and I knew that I could now mean serious cash in someones pocket, I would not feel safe. How do you know that your well being is the main focus, not the profit? I mean, these are corporations, there objective is to make cash. They're not bloody Mary Poppins.

No you don't retard, you have a public health insurance OPTION.

Damn it, I want to hear some good arguments against this.

For christs sake, you have perfectly well educated people, entire families, living on the streets! And you call yourself the greatest country on earth.

giant leap backward. Do you realize we have the best hospitals and doctors on earth? Do you realize why doctors from across the globe come to the US to work and to learn in our schools? Do you realize why we have the best care in the world? Do you realize why people flock to the US to receive care? If you don't, then you are a moron.

do you realize the vast majority of inventions in the past 50 or so years have come from the US? do you realize how profit makes things better? you go take your sustainability and shove it up your tight non progressing stagnant ass

bbiinngggoooo

People need to get it in their tiny ass heads that profit isnt always terrible. Profit leads to innovation which will decrease the cost of medical expenses in the future. Having open heart surgery is going to cost you. Nothing is free in this world. say hello to $2 trillion dollars added initially to our debt. Not to mention the more debt we will inquire for the decades following. Just so you know, here is what 2 trillion looks like. $2,000,000,000,000. Its not like most of your little 20 dollar allowances you get from your parents to buy food while you ski.

Jesus christ.

hahahha ok, the US REVOLUTIONIZED, if not created, the automobile industry. You must not know of Henry Ford though.

last time i checked, the automobile was not invented within the last 50 years. neither was the jet engine, but that was at least more of a grey area

i live in canada and trust me, even with special privlidges from having doctors in my family; healthcare still sucks here.

also socialism only helps large corporations by providing a larger and more easily corruptible government.

i love how everyone seems to assume public healthcare is somehow free or cheaper than private healthcare

ok, you can name a couple things that werent. thats why i said the vast majority you slackjawed idiot, are you gonna deny that capitalism creates for incentive to innovate?

so we all owe it to a bunch of chemistry and biology and physics shit that resulted in the big bang? youre making yourself look like a total idiot

are you shitting me? every one of those inventions on that list are useful. they didnt even bother mentioning the non-necessities of modern life (entertainment, etc etc)

People who are using Wikipedia as a valid list of important inventions are complete and udder idiots. Just throwing it out there.

wait, how many of those came within the last 50 years?

OWNED

and the internet was invented by the US, the world wide web was invented by brits

cool story bro, i guess we owe EVERYTHING to GOD

youre a fucking idiot and you make no sense whatsoever. if you kill someone, is your mom responsible because she raised you? get the fuck outta here with your bumbling idiocy

Wow, there are a lot of conservative morons on this site.

This bill far from turns healthcare public. In fact, it forces people to have health care and is thus a stimulus for the health care industry. It also addresses one of the main problems our country faces right now, the fact that people aged 18-26 are the least covered group in the country. THUS, we park skiers now get health care. If you don't know sick skiers that are too poor to afford health care, then you live under a rock.

THIS IS A GOOD THING!

So the public option is good for the country because skiers can now afford coverage?

That's all I got from your post.

Ding Ding Ding! Exactly, it FORCES people to have health care. Since when does the government get to force its people to do things? I didn't think that was supposed to happen in a democracy/representative republic. Fuck the government. Just because the public voted some people into representative office suddenly makes those people into gods that can tell all of us idiots what we can and can't do and how we should run our lives? Fuck that. The United States was founded on the principle of individual freedom and choice. How the hell is this a choice for any of us? I doesn't even matter who we vote into office anymore, they don't don't give a shit what we have to say as long as we put them into a seat of power. Once they get there they belong to the highest bidder. This bill is an abomination to the Constitution and everything that the U.S. is supposed to stand for. The government should have absolutely no right to interfere in private industry and tell the common man what kind of health insurance/care he can have. And if they can tell us what kind of health care/insurance we are allowed to have, then why can't they tell us what kind of food to eat, where to live, what kind of car to drive, etc. and so on. "Well you can only drive a Prius now, because we need to save the environment. It's for your own good. Oh, and we are outlawing salt and fried food, because that is bad for people and we want to have a healthy population. We are the government and we know better than you." That is where this bill is taking us.

Do you realise that such big names as david beckham, and heaps and heaps of NHL players come to Finland every to get their injuries taken care of.. ill get hate on this but you guys just think u are the best country on earth just because ur government runs on the oil you get from iraq

I just have one question. i dont mean to generalize but i know thats what will happen.

why is it a bad thing to help out your citizens? help those who have a hard time helping themselves.

i have lived in canada my whole life and i have direct family members who have needed more than their fair share of health care. It has helped us emencely. We didnt need the support, but it was nice to know that whatever people need they got.

I think you guys are just anti-everything. if everything does go through and you get a similar system to us i doubt you will be complaining.

Like I said, government control is what I have a big problem with here. You are forcing people to pay higher taxes to help others, your are forcing people to purchase health insurance and they will be punished if they don't. The government should not be meddling in peoples personal live like this. in fact the U.S. Constitution strictly forbids it, but no one seems to care about that lately.

Now, I am all for helping people. Charity is a noble thing and something that we need more of both in this country and in this world. You are right that there are honest people out there who fall on bad luck and need help. Just the other day I gave a few bucks to a guy who is on the street. And this is where private industry and citizens come in. The U.S. population is the most charitable nation on the face of this Earth. We give more to charity every year than other country out there. But there were no government mandates passed in Congress to cause this. Our population CHOOSES to give a portion of their income to those who are less fortunate. Is it any surprise that we are also the wealthiest country on Earth(and by wealth I mean wealth of the citizens not of the government)? And how did we become the wealthiest nation in the world? it certainly wasn't by the government telling us what to do. In fact it was by the government stepping out of the way. The founding fathers realized that the individual, when given an opportunity, could accomplish incredible things. The whole theory of government staying out of peoples lives and out of the way of business works just fine, if you let it work. It is when the government thinks that they know better and try to step in and "fix" things that it all goes in the crapper.

definetly a fair arguement. i guess its difference of opinion. as a canadian we have always had a fairly involved government i guess. (in comparison, anyway).

I could be wrong in this, but didnt canadas economy remain more stable during the recession because the bank of canada saw what was happening and stepped in.

i am not with you. i dont think profit is the way to go everywhere. education, infrastructure and health care are areas where it shouldnt be about profit.
