I recently launched a new website http://heresmymoney.com/

We find cools things from around the web and compile them on one site with links to where they can be purchased. Yes, there are other very similar sites out there (Shut up and take my money, this is why I'm broke, etc.)

It is in the very early stages right now, so there are not that many items on the site right now. I am mainly looking for input on how I could make the better, stand out from the competition.

It is monetized via affiliate links (Amazon, ThinkGeek, etc.) No, I am not covering my expenses yet.

Feel free to ask me anything! I appreciate any questions or comments!
 
Yes, it is based off of This Is Why I'm Broke. Which ThisIsWhyImBroke was based off of other sites (as stated in an AMA the founder did on Reddit.

ThisIsWhyImBroke hit it big through a link of reddit and went viral from there. The site is far from being finished so the design will definitely be changing.

This is primarily due to the hosting. In order to keep overhead low I am currently using cheap shared hosting. This will change in the future. There is also some additional optimization that needs to be done with the theme.

The website is Wordpress based. Yes, the theme may be juvenile, but that is almost what I am aiming for. I haven't put much effort into improving the aesthetics yet as I have been generating content.
 
What do I think? I think you will be in the "aspiring" phase for quite some time, right up until you enter the "failure" stage.
 
Like I said in another thread the entrepreneurial spirit is the American dream for me.

That said, how is this any different than http://www.thisiswhyimbroke.com/

I'm not saying you need to come up with a revolutionary idea but every aspect is the same. The same format, the same categories the same style. You could look at any piece of the two sites and not be able to tell which one you're using.

It's a complete copy cat.
 
I don't think I had even been on this is why I'm broke before. I just pulled them up next to each other and went back and forth. At least the search bar is about 400 higher up on his site than the other. I think there was also one difference in category and then a different name at the top.

Other than that identical. There's a shit ton of copycat sites on the webs. It's whatever, but def not much for the entrepreneurial spirit.
 
Well considering that I am nearing the break-even point after only a few weeks of operation... I would not consider it a failure.
