Here we go again

Newest update of our next chance to get slaughtered with snowfall-

... Weather to stay unsettled before another powerful winter storm is

possible by next weekend over the eastern Sierra and western

Nevada...

A trough off the West Coast is expected to move onshore Thursday

afternoon bringing widespread rain and snow to western Nevada and the

eastern Sierra. Snow levels will initially start out above the valley

floors Thursday night but will drop rapidly Friday as a cold front

approaches the area.

A strong area of low pressure is expected to develop off the Pacific

northwest coast by next weekend while abundant Pacific moisture and a

strong jet stream pushes into the Sierra. This weather pattern would

be favorable for producing a prolonged period of heavy snowfall in

the Sierra and into the valleys of northeast California and western

Nevada. Significant snow accumulations are possible in both the lower

valleys and the higher elevations.

While the exact time frame for the heaviest snowfall is still

uncertain... the latest data indicates that the most likely period for

heavy snow would occur from Friday night through Sunday.

People planning travel in the Sierra or western Nevada later this

week and into the weekend should monitor the latest forecasts from

the National Weather Service on this potentially dangerous weather

situation. Driving conditions may be complicated by existing heavy

snow cover in the valleys of western Nevada and northeast California.

Preparations for this possible storm should be completed early this

week.

Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio and other local media for further

details or updates.
