read this in the paper today, i know theres a few people on here who ski hemlock so whats the deal? Why did they not do like they said and upgrade the hill and put the new lift in? Is there any plans?

yeah I'm interested to see what you have to say about this brian, they can't close your shit

Well, I'm going to be the mature responsible non-teen that I now am and keep any opinions and rumours out of this. What newspaper was it in? Are you talking recently or a while back? A few months ago there was an article in the province that talked about it.

Basically what happened was this. Joe (the cheap ass owner...its not an opinion its fact), broke contract with the home owners assoc. and didn't upgrade the mountain to raise the property values like he promised. The home owners assoc. in turn went to the govt who said if Joe didnt sell or find an investor he would have to turn Hemlock over to the govt. The deadline was a while back but because he was in such indepth talk with investors they extended the time frame.

For my competition I was quite worried, so I looked into it. They have reassured me that the hill will be open NO MATTER WHAT this year, and that talks are still going on.

I have heard (damn rumours...who cares) that there was some sort of deadline sometime around this week for something. I dont know what, so I'm going to call them tomorrow. I have been talking to them regularly lately and have constantly been reassured.

I would more be worrying about next year, as it seems this year is set in stone.

Alot of the worrying this year has been because there has been a complete overhaul of managers.

Ill find more for you boys.

I read it in the abbotsford times from this morning or it might have been from yesterday.

Hemlock Valley Faces Closure

Hemlock valley resorts inc. could lose its crown tenure and be take over by the province by Dec. 11 - the day it is scheduled to open for the season - if owner Joe Peters does not live up to a 50-year tenure agreement with the Ministry of Tourism.

On Oct. 11, ministry officials gave Peters and the resort, which is located an hour east of Mission, a 60-day notice of termination of their Master Development Agreement because the company defaulted on improvements it was to make, some of which were supposed to be completed in December 2003.

In order to keep operating the resort on Crown land, Peters agreed to upgrade two existing chair lifts last year and install a new lift next year. The resort was also supposed to be open seven days a week by the 2005-06 skiing season.

man you canadians are a bunch of commies, government mandated express lifts? do you get your bread ration with that you dirty reds?

um no basically he agreed to "improve" the resort when they gave him the license... and he hasnt... one of those "improvements" was supposed to be anoher lift

i cant stop avoiding the papers im not writing about the books spread all around me. you know what im not learning about? communism, or how you marxist fucks have to hide from the stasi so you dont get your mushy polish apples taken away. i'm sure your filthy contracts are as legitimate as your "elections."

k im done now. but seriously, the term "crown land" makes me giggle.

JOE PETERS IS A FUCKING ASSHOLE I HATE HIM...HE SHOULD EAT SOME GREASY MOLLY HOGANS FOOD AND DIE!

IF HEMLOCK DOESN'T OPEN THIS WINTER WE SHOULD STILL GO UP THERE TO PARTY AND SNOWMOBILE!

SHINDIG AT MY PLACE...YOU GUYS BRING THE BEERS AND BLUNTS!

HEMLOCK IS DOPE I LOVE IT THERE!

I plan on moving out there sometime this month. To the bunks again.

there has been no definite answers, I talked to friends last week who own up there and work for the mountain/mountain electrical company and he said that he was busy working for the hill.

But also my friend who was hired for the ski school has not moved out there yet. Things definitly seem sketchy but I will be calling them tomorrow to see about my job and etc.

woo manning woo! but uh yeah, seriously if hemlock closes, that will just about be one of the lamest things to happen to skiing and snowboarding in the last 10 years in the upper fraser valley.

^still, they're losing money with this move. i heard that they were in money trouble, so u'd figure that they could use all of the sales that they could get.

The recent announcements by the local ski areas to begin operations as a result of the early season snowfall has created a substantial amount of inquiries as to the status of Hemlock Valley ski area for this season. We would like to offer the following comments:

In August 2003, Hemlock Valley Resorts entered into a long term (50 year) agreement with the Province of BC for the operation and development of the ski area. That agreement included, among other things, a requirement for the resort to undertake a number of key, but expensive items within the initial period of the agreement (specifically a requirement to either upgrade the existing lifts or install a new lift.) The time lines for those requirements were, from our perspective, unreasonable. Nevertheless, since August 2003, we have continued to move ahead on completing many of the obligations, as set out in the agreement with the Province.

Unfortunately, despite everyone's best efforts, the inability of the resort to open up during the winter of 2004/05, due to poor snow conditions, further hampered our ability to address the requirements in our development agreement. Over the last several months, we have worked diligently to identify a new investor or purchaser for the resort that would move forward with the future development and operation of the resort. To date, those discussions have not identified a new investor or purchaser, although discussions remain ongoing.

Over the last few months, the Province has grown increasingly impatient with their request to have the resort complete the obligations in the development agreement, and in October of this year, the resort was given a 60 day notice to either comply (have the requirements completed) or the agreement would be terminated effective December 11,2005. The resort has expressed significant reservations to the Province regarding this decision, saying this notice will not assist in bringing forward a new investor or purchaser. One of the key consequences arising from this decision is our inability to sell season passes, which provides critical revenue related to getting the resort open for the winter. The Province has specifically directed us to not have any season pass sales while the 60 day notice is in place.

So, where do we go from here? In the event the agreement with the Province is terminated, effective Dec. 11th, the Province has stated it will not operate the resort for this winter, and over the winter and into the spring, they will work toward identifying a new operator through a competitive bid process.

In terms of Hemlock Valley Resorts, we are not in a position to allocate funds to get the resort open, nor would we, given the potential for the Province to terminate within 30 days.

We remain committed to finding a new investor or purchaser, and if that can be accomplished within the next 30 days, we will make our best efforts to move forward to get the resort open as soon as possible, and hopefully in time for the Christmas holiday season. Keep in mind that any new purchaser will require the approval of the Province before any decision is made to open the resort.

We are excited about the early season conditions and would like nothing more than to announce that we are moving forward to an early opening date.

We want to thank all of our supporters for their continued patience and understanding in this difficult, but exciting time of transition. We remain cautiously optimistic that a decision on opening the resort can be realized very soon.
