I'm lookin for a good LIGHT ski. I'm thinkin either Line Masterminds (167) or Atomic Punx (166).

I was going for the anthems but they weigh 1875 grams on the 171's. So i decided thats not what I'm lookin for... the Masterminds are 1415 grams on the 167's, so I'm thinkin of these.

My problem: can't find the weight on the 2009 Atomic Urban Punx. Anybody know the specs?

Weight really means nothing, it's swing weight that you want to be low. Most symmetrical skis will have lower swing weights because they're more balanced. Also, I can tell you that Masterminds are definitely lighter than urban punx, I don't know exact weights but I've held both unmounted and the masterminds are lighter, but again, that doesn't necessarily mean they'll spin faster.

Swing weight is sort of like aerodynamics, it's basically how quickly and easily you can swing or spin your skis. So a ski with low swing weight will spin faster than a ski with high swing weight. Factors for swing weight include shape, construction, weight distribution, and design. If a ski has even weight in the tip and tail it'll spin faster, so that's why symmetrical skis usually have lower swing weight than non-symmetrical skis, however some companies design their skis to have even weight even though their not symmetrical. Also, center mounting a ski will help lower swing weight (again, it evens out the balance points) and certain bindings can lower it too due to shape and weight.

thanks man that helps a lot. i was leaning more towards the masterminds.

but do you think masterminds swing weight isnt as low as the punx cause the punx are truely symmetrical and the masterminds are not?

Ski designing takes a long time and is pretty expensive for a reason. And yea, it makes a pretty big reason, but now a days almost all park skis have pretty low swing weight.
As to which of these two has the lowest swing weight, unfortunately I don't know, I've never really skied the punx, but since the punx are symmetrical I'd say them, but not by much, Line spends a lot of time reducing swing weight in their skis.

i have the mastermind (167) they are really light and have a pretty low swing weight if you want them hit me up ill sell them cuase i just brought anthems

Masterminds stiffer? I'm not totally sure about that one. I know Abangs break in a lot, but Masterminds are nearly Invader soft out of the box, and only get softer.. I'd call em similar, but I'd say masterminds are softer.

so if im doing butters, presses, learning inverts, and a lot of spins like off rails and stuff... should i go with abangs 166? or mastermind 167?

both have same surface area.. the line website says masterminds are lighter by just a few hundred grams per ski. but im not sure which to chose. i ski 90% park

oh cuase there a directioal ski if your center mounting get anthem even tho there heavy you get used to it like i did i went from a mastermind to anthem and they are by far the best ski solid under foot but buttery at the tips
