Help with School, +K

Alright so im halfway through my first year of general sciences but im doing a transfer to engineering. Right now I have all the credits i need to get into second year, but I'm missing a key physics. my options are

a) take 5 courses, wake up at 10ish every day, and still get to keep my job at a ski shop, ski one day a week, and then take 2 courses in summer school to make room for that physics class next year, less stress, more likely a higher GPA, but held down in the summer with less time for trips. (only part time at lifeguarding job which pays really well)

b) take 6 courses, wake up at 7am 3 times a week, most likely have to quit my job at the shop, ski one day a week, little to no free time, more stress, potentially lower GPA, but have a sweet summer and have free time to go to whis in april once the semesters done, as well as set me up for my second year. (Also have a lifeguarding job which pays $25 an hour in summer, starts in july)

im really stuck on this one.

My other courses are, integral calc, matrix algebra, programming, organic chem, and mechanics. Im missing calc based physics. Anyone with some input would be appreciated, ive never taken a 6 course load so im not sure what to expect, especially with difficult other classes. +K for helpful answers thanks guys

you should go with the 5 class now 2 summer. it will be way easier on you and you will still keep your job. you won't get to do as much in the summer but winter is where the skiing is at.

I mean I'm not you, but honestly I would do the six now and free up your summer. Like its sucks that you'd have to quit your job but school burns me out so hard... if I didn't have summer I would probably end up dropping out because that's just tooooooo much school in a row for me haha. So if you're anything like me that's what I would do.

I would bite the bullet and do 6 too. I always thought summer school wouldn't be that bad, but its kind of a drag when you actually end up doing it. and it sounds like youll make more money as a lifeguard

Two of my biggest regrets through out School (I am a Mech. E, graduated in '14)

1: Overloading my class credits my freshman/sophomore schedule. Making my gpa suffer. Take less credits, but put the same amount of time into the classes!

2: Not taking summer classes. Summer classes are normally smaller and shorter duration. Smaller classes allow for a more focused learning experience and shorter duration, well is just great. Also, my school Ohio University, was a blast during the summer with a less populated campus/town!

Hope this helps! Also, what engineering track are you thinking of?

Would 2 classes in the summer really ruin your summer though? I mean you have to go to class but 2 classes isn't that much so you'd have time to do other things.

I would personally hate summer school, but the 6 classes now with a potentially lower gpa doesn't sound fun either. Your classes seem pretty tough so a high GPA will help you a lot so in the end I say 5 classes now, 2 later.

Hey man! I'm probably going in for mech as well but material and environmental engineering are starting to interest me too

I think more info is needed about the summer classes like how many days a week's and how many weeks it lasts. Unless the summer classes are going to take up a major percentage of your summer i would go that route or else your goingredients to hate yourself.

Depends on your HS education... If it was good then I suggest you grind out the 6 courses at once! Leave your summer open, trust me this is the better option. If you did not learn anything in HS then spend the time really learning it now and take two in the summer if you're worried. Stress kills.

No matter what, with the difficulty of the 5 or 6 of the courses you're taking, you will be grinding. So might as well do it all at once.

Don't worry about jobs, there will be work. Especially if you play your cards right at school.

Summer classes would likely be 1 course each semester, so not taking up a huge amount of my time but it would kinda keep me held down if I wanted to do any trips, especially with work on the side. 6 courses is really tempting me because I know I could go ski the glacier and have a month of down time to travel and chill in April-May once I'm out and get my skiing fix in before grinding out work full time in the last 2 summer months. The other thing is a ton of my HS friends went away for school and will be back in the summer so I'm kinda hoping to have extra time to catch up with them as well.

Sounds like you have your answer then.

i don't know if your project is still going but http://www.valthorens.com/en/live/news/news-detail/the-evolution-of-skis.378.a634.html might help you

Your summer will be 10x better if you work your ass off during school. Starting the summer with little to no obligations after stomping your finals is an amazing feeling.

Taking fewer classes will give you more downtime. Which translates to more and more distractions. Keep your head down with a busy schedule and you will be thanking yourself this summer.

Pulled the trigger on 6 courses, thanks for the help guys. I realized I definitely want to free up my summer!

Do the 5 now two in the summer. I'm an engineering major as well and I know the struggle. I currently have five classes or 18 hours this semester but I'm taking three classes this summer to keep on track. Anymore classes and I wouldn't be able to work or ski.

Quit school and bum out in a subaru at the base of mount hood.

0 stress,

0 girls

0 life

ski 7 times a week

wake up whenever the fuck u want
