Okay so I've had it jailbroken for a long time. with absinthe or whatever. its on IOS 5.1.1 and the other day i downloaded a tweak and it froze. being a dumb ass i hit power and home. fucked. it is stuck on the apple logo. i know how to get it into recovery mode but lets go slow here

1st- is there anyway to get it out without losing anything back to normal, prob not but whatever

2nd- is there any way to restore without the update?

3rd- last thing i want to do is update and restore because that means i cant jailbreak it again. but i still can restore it with the update as a last resort correct?

K+++ for help

Do a google search for "ipod 4g 5.1.1 firmware download." Once downloaded, go into Itunes and hold shift and click the restore button. Then just find the firmware you downloaded and use it. This will allow you to restore using the old firmware.

This. Ever since 6.1.3 came out they stopped doing it. They wanted to patch evasion and make it do once you updated, you couldn't go back. Nobody knew about it until afterwards though. I got fucked over on this. I was gonna jail break mine and updated it to get the stupid 1 off

which is not fully jailbrakeable unfortunately, you can do a tethered jailbrake for A4 decives (iPhone 4, iPod touch 4th gen) but you have to plug into the computer every time you reboot

My ipod is ancient so I haven't had to deal with this. Would it be possible to use an old version of itunes and keep your computer offline? Or is it something on the ipod itself?

Never mind, you have to be connected to the internet. It looks like you are going to have to do the update but it is possible to downgrade to an old firmware once you're done. It looks like it's very difficult though. If you are interested, I could send some instructions.

sorry for the triple post. Go ahead and let your battery die then plug it into the computer and try turning it back on before you do anything. It's possible that it will work again.
