Help! What effing ski to choose?

I have what seems to be a common problem. There are so many skis out there, which should make it easy to pick the right one eh? No. I spend hours staring at this screen trying to figure out which is best. Here's the deal: I have a pair of 179 08 fujatives, center mounted (dont question this, it was my choice), and i'm looking for a ski that will do the opposite of the fujative. The fujative is a very soft park ski for those who didn't know.

Im looking for a wider ski (100+) , around medium flex, around 180+ in length, no rocker. Here is a rought estimate of my skiing: about 30% Powder, 40% Big Mountain, and 30% groomers.

Any advice at all would be great, and demoing is out of the question.

Thanks.

i looked at the obsetheds.they were the ski i was gunning for until i realized i was 30% groomers. does anyone know how obseths roll on groomers?

if ur worried about groomers then get the 08 seths, they're skinner. my friend uses them here (east coast no pow) and he likes them, so they slay groomers pretty well.

brigades/s5, seths, prophet 100, blend are all good. they all have a relatively medium flex, none have rocker besides seths which have the mini rocker. those wold be my choices. oh and the zero, that looks like a sick ski

Nordica zero actually sounds pretty good for what u want...

line motherships are also worth considering

Hey man, you should be honest, if you plan on doing 40% do you really mean big mountain? Because you then list the SFB, which is not a big mountain ski in my mind. If you are talking Big mountain then I'll be talking ANTs, XXLx, DPs and the like. But I'm going to assume you mean lift accessed stuff. I'm not making a judgement in anyway just trying to help you out.

it'll be well worth you checking out the Moment Ruby, this ski rips and is a bargain.

Last years Seth, they have the mini mini rocker in the nose that isn't noticable on piste but quite effective in the soft.

Last years JPvs.JR would also be a sweet choice, it's 103 in the waist and is a really nice ski. Lovely flex and a real joy to ride in the deep.

Prophet 100 would be a much wiser choice than the SFB, super legit ski with more versatility than the SFB.

4frnt VCT are straight legit and way underated, if I'm correct students get a 30% discount of their site too (not 100% positive).

Dynastar Big Trouble

Rossi Brigade.

All of those would be viable options for you and you should let us know what you really mean by Big Mountain.

i say SFB or VCT will fit you best. i rode the VCT in whilster, and i absolutely loved them. they powered through crud, were nice and snappy and pretty light for how wide they were. id say shoot for those. as for the SFB, i havent ridden them, but i havent heard any complaints from anyone.

Id put a vote towards VCT too, if your a college student you get 30 percent off, which while that sucks for ski shops it works out for us

shit yeah, i ski on ruby's in the park, on groomers, in pow. it is a very versatile ski, it has a progressive flex and come in 2 other sizes. each with there own flexpattern. i ski on the 180s witch have the progressive flex, 188's are soft, and 190's are stiff as hell. but jump on these man. also moment carries bindings now for legit prices so you can get them together now. also bibbys are the best ski ive ever owned

Please, people: if you're going to recommend a ski in Gear Talk, please give a reason behind your logic. It's very unconvincing to see posts with bad grammar and random ski names - if I were the thread creator I wouldn't even read those, because it seems like you don't know what you're talking about. Show that you have some knowledge of the ski.

From what it sounds like, you want a fatter all mountain ski, right? Either this year's or last year's Line Blends sound good. The Blends this year have different dimensions, but are a little bit softer, I think. I don't think any of the Prophets would be good for you because they're as stiff as 2 x 4s.

The Rossignol Steeze (I don't know what they're calling this year's version, sorry) is somewhere around 110 in the waist, and is relatively a medium flex.

The 07 Seths (the year before last year) are actually pretty damn heavy, and I would NOT recommend those for you. Last year's, however, the one's with the minirocker? Those could work, and I've read that the minirocker is quite fun and playful.

SFBs are basically just a really soft, fat, playful all mountain ski. If big mountain isn't your top priority, and you mess around in pow more often, then the SFB will kill it for you. They're solid on groomers too, basically all around awesome (from what I hear).

Hopefully this helps you out man. Good luck in your quest
