Hey guys,

We had a bird local, Mikayla go down hard in competition yesterday. Like really fucking bad. She's a super awesome girl, and a total ripper. There's a gofund me because the hospital she's at is out of network for her family insurance, anything helps.

A few words from Dena

Mikayla Willis was critically injured in a tragic ski accident in Montana on March 23, 2022. She was competing in the Freeride World Finals in Big Sky. She took 1st place the day before in the qualifiers. She was taken by ambulance then life flighted twice. Her injuries are severe: shattered skull, broken nose, broken L2 back, fractured hips and lacerations on her face. She has already had one surgery and is expected to be in the ICU for several weeks. The hospital where Mikayla is currently is "out of network" under the family's insurance policy. Any help that we can give them will be greatly appreciated.
 
Holy shit I had no idea it was that bad. Was up top when it happened and we couldn't see anything other than the sled leaving, hoping her recovery is quick and she's back on skis soon

Questionable choice of venue in my opinion esp with the low tide conditions. Line choice was really limited. Seemed like we either had to ski a safety run on lookers L or take chances on the super dry chute that she hit (which was closed during inspection). More confident skiers might disagree but I thought it was kinda sketch
 
Fuck the US healthcare system. "Out of network" bullshit. Insurance companies can shove a pivot up their asses.

Recover quickly Mikayla. I'll shoot some money her way. She needs it more than I do

not true for me at all or anyone i know. Ive had 5 surgeries all covered from skiing and get near free prescritions/low copay anytime.

no one knows yet, we're still waiting to see if she'll survive, which is looking likely, but the extent of the head injury and back injuries are unknown as of yet I believe. Hoping for the best, but we just don't know yet.

"Wonderful news! Mikayla is conscious, talking and off of life support. She is still in the ICU and is being watched. The family thanks everyone for their generosity."

Good vibes.

It's possible to come back, but it takes a lot of work and dedication. Friend of mine was in a similar situation and was skiing again 8 months later. She's a beast much like mikayla.

She'll need all the support we can give her, now and in the future.

Sorry about skierman lol. He's a sociopathic psychopath who lives in a little cabin in the middle of know where with no bitches because he is fat and ugly so I guess one could certainly see how he's so angry and such a loser. Guy doesn't even ski.

No one made it political, healthcare is inherently a political subject. I’m hoping that this girl is okay and pointing out that there are people in power who profit greatly from a predatory health care system doesn’t detract from wishing her well. Wishing her well, all while insisting that we completely ignore the system making her situation worse, is far more disingenuous imo. Requesting that no one discuss universal healthcare while a girl has to have a gofundme just to survive the American healthcare system is about as ironic as it gets.

I agree that this situation shows that the American healthcare system is deeply flawed and I think it should be criticized here too, it's just that skierman is bringing his obnoxious asf egotistical energy into a thread for supporting this woman in a terrible situation

Facts. I get not wanting to turn it into just trash talking political parties, but like, said political parties have a lot to do with why I see one of these gofundme's like once a month. I hope the best for Mikayla.
