OK, fine. I'll tell you what to do, a project that will actually work and will actually help people. First, I'll explain why what you have planned will fail.
1: Yes, we have extra gear that we no longer use. That is what the Buy/Sell/Trade forum is for, or eBay. This money goes toward lift tickets and gas.
2: The gear we have wouldn't actually help people. By the time we are done with gear and not interested in selling it, the gear is trashed. The actual ski gear, such as poles, goggles, and helmets only would work for skiers. There are no poor skiers who need help. $80 lift tickets and $10 hamburgers at the lodge make sure of that.
You need to find a way to help the community that does not drastically inconvenience people, and that actually BENEFITS the community. The perfect solution is a used eyeglasses collection program. Many, many people have used eyeglasses sitting around. They may have changed prescriptions, or there might be a small scratch on a lense. People don't throw these out, they just leave them sitting around in a junk drawer or in a desk. If they realize they can be donated for charity, they are happy to get rid of them.
There is a tangible use for used eyeglasses. I quote:
"Donating your old eyeglasses can save someone in a developing nation from unemployment. With the cost of glasses equaling a year’s salary in some countries, donated eyeglasses are the only feasible way to bring sight to many visually impaired."
Your Project Plan will look like this:
Write-up of reason behind soliciting donations.
How donations will be received.
Publicity you will use.
Who will be involved.
Once you have the eyeglasses, what you will do with them.
After this is written up and approved, you will craft donation boxes. Modestly sized cardboard boxes with construction paper on them, as well as a message printed or written on the front will work well. You will then need to contact several community centers and places large numbers of people frequent. Remember, you must have their permission and blessing to place your donation boxes. Think of your Town Hall, the local American Legion, the YMCA, etc. A print message in the local media will serve you well. Write up a short and concise ad, and list collection areas. The local newspaper should be happy to run a free ad for a charitable cause. You might also check with local radio stations. They will often air a free ad or two for charitable causes.
Once you have collected the eyeglasses, which will probably be around 500-1000 pairs (but set a modest target number in your project proposal, such as 250), you will need to give them to an agency that can get them to those in need. The Lions Club is one such organization that would work for you.
