Help me pick a photo for a school competition

There's a photo contest at UBC with the prompt "What is Technology" and I wanted to comment on how it can be restricting, isolating, and that we often find ourselves bound to it. Here are few shots I popped off tonight, tell me which you like the most:

Agreed, any ideas? I've been using the healing brush, clonestamp, and the patch tool with some dodging an burning but I can't get the texture quite right.

Im leaning 2 & 7 but I havent fallen in love with any of them..They're mostly all good, just nothing that screams to me..

I like 1 and 5 a lot. They all look a bit on the cooler side on my monitor. (Not calibrated with any professional software though)

I'd say lay off on the intense desaturation. It looks cool for some people, but other photographers or educated people may or may not dislike it. There is a difference between neutral colors and just low saturation.

Other than that though, 1 is really cool, maybe have one of the cords plugged into an outlet, which would become part of the background in a looser composed one. The missing mouth is cool too, it says (lol pun) the message rather well. I'd say try taking some skin from your arm (where it's in focus) and then changing its colors and whatever. It seems to have more of a texture there. It looks like you just dragged the brush across. Are you using 0 hardness on the clone or healing brushes? It will help soften the edge, so you can't see where you dragged the brush. Also, try taking other shots of your face under the same lighting, and move your face so you can get good spots to take skin from.

The missing mouth thing is an awesome idea, just imporve the photoshoping. Also, what's that circle spot on your pants in the first?

That can be fixed in PS. I like #1 the most, followed by #5. The rest aren't doing much for me, especially the ones where you stamped out your mouth.

i like 1 or 5, but some how get the colours for 5 from number 3, like it seems really yellow in 3, not so much in 5.

But hey only my opinion, then agian i am in high school, so maybe dont consider me.

5 for sure.

PS - Join the Photo Society at UBC!

We have a full studio and darkroom and everything. A professional digital printer (the ink is free for members!) and all kinds of stuff. We're having an exhibition at IK Barber in November, and there's a member show in the gallery in the SUB next semester too. ALSO we have a ton of equipment that members can borrow for free.

Ok, sorry, spiel over. :)

I like the simplicity of 7, think it's really clear on what you're trying to say with the photo. Unlike what most of the others said, I'm not sold on the ones with his face in the picture. The expression looks too staged with the eyes bugged out. I know what you're going for but it looks a bit cheasy imo. Not hating though! Overall, I'm impressed

aight... gonna do some work later on 1, 5, and 6 thanks for your guys is thoughts +k all around

I am German, therefore i don't know the exact words, but use the Clone Stamp (S), the one above which looks like a patch (J) and maybe the eraser (E), try different levels of opacity on the Clone Stamp and the Patch (J)

playing around with that will get you a good result!

i reworked shots 1, 5, 6, 8 (could do the mouth better still on number 6 but I'm too tired to work anymore). I'm inclined to try and go with one of the one's with no mouth just for the immediacy of the message they generate. Bit more eyecatching methinks.

no more lens flare

now in full color

more yellow and some other minor toning differences

better photoshop work on the mouth

I have till november 30th to submit so I've got time to reshoot etc, so if youve got any wild suggestions feel free to share em

Variations of 5 with better hand positioning (more tension in the muscles/etc, to help whatever message you want to get across) and a few different coloured cables. Again, ditch the B&W/colour mix thing.

just a quick photoshop. i think you could do a better job than this though. just try to erase all shadows, which make it seem like there is a blob or a hole. just try to crate a smooth surface if you know what i mean...

reformatting of the website fucked it all away

An ethernet port can look an awful lot like a mouth. Just kinda roughed this one together with a photo of an ethernet port from a google search. If it's well recieved I'll shoot it myself and do some better photoshop work. Check it:
