Hey guys, so I broke my wrist a week ago and im super bored and depressed. Injuries suck for sure. anyways, I've got a T3i and some new glass and thought I should do some sort of project to help the time pass. I'm working on a timelapse video for the end of the summer, but I'm gonna be at home for the next two weeks, and I'd love to put my t3i to the test a little. Any ideas of what kind of video to shoot would be awesome!

How exactly do you guys shoot timelapses? Like do you just let your camera film looking at the sky for 12 mins, or how long do you film it for? Also what are some general settings you guys run while doing timeslapses? Sorry to thread jack OP.

Timelapses are series of photos generally. They are taken using an intervalometer. Duration can be anywhere from a few minutes, to weeks. I'm not sure how long the longest timelapse ever was, but I wouldn't be surprised if it lasted over a year.

yes. with a canon DSLR, you really need one though. for a while i only had a $400 canon consumer camera but was so interested in timelapses that i would just take a video and speed it up. not nearly as efficient or high quality as working with a DSLR though. I believe nikons have a built in intervalometer, and idk about other brands. magic lantern for the T2/3i, 5d, etc. im pretty sure has an intervalometer feature.

Yeah I have a t2i, so if I wan't to film a timelapse most effeciently I need to get the magic lantern hack?

Alright thanks man, even though it is only 17 dollars that is still to much money for me haha, it sucks being completely broke.

this is with t3i? damn that does not look as good as i thought. Looks about the same if not worse as my shitty ass hv30. Maybe its the exporting then?

yea i was thinking it was looking kinda shitty. and i've got good glass and everything on it, so im gonna check out my export settings and if that doesnt change it, shoot a different test with different settings.

yea i probably should have, that shot was actually in a creek though (as in I was standing in a creek and the tripod was mounted on the base of the creek, so the current made it a little shaky
