Help me decide...

Hey everyone,

I'm looking into getting a new computer possibly desktop or laptop I definitely prefer a laptop but its also more pricey. I'd be down to make a computer too because I have some knowledge in that area. This computer would be used for editing lots of big HD video files, and normal use(internet, games etc.).

I'm open to any ideas but some things I most likely want in it are Intel i7 quad core, and 8 GB of ram, I'm not too sure about internal storage because i can just get external hard drives if need be. I don't really have a budget yet, I'd love to keep prices relatively low without sacrificing too much. I'm only looking for windows suggestions because I know what i would want from apple already. Thanks for any help, K+ for good answers. And I've done my research I just wanna see what Ns has to say.

Its either Asus or Acer that makes really cheap gaming machines, but they're graphic powerhouses so they would definitely suit your needs. I've seen some fucking SICK laptops in the $1200 range from both companies, just look it up on future shop and get the best value. As for desktops... Probably won't have a problem finding something cheaper to suit your needs, desktops are insane now.

If you're doing HD video editing it would probably be wise to get an external hard drive just to back everything up (set up the windows equivalent of Time Machine, just in case you hard drive crashes... losing all that footy SUCKS), but a big internal one too for all the project files you're actually using. I have a little 13" macbook and do lots of music producing, I've tried to use external drives to store big files but when I use the files in projects everything just gets beyond slow because the external drives aren't as fast or there's just too much latency.

Yeah for sure thanks for the reply dude. I'm honestly not interested in gaming but since they're graphic powerhouse it's a possibility. I'd also need a good video card in the laptop or computer,, damn this is hard..

Gaming laptop = dope graphics/video card. When you need to have a 3D world with shadows and water rippling up on your screen, you need an awesome graphics card... At least if its going to look nice.

I don't know enough specific computers to recommend you a single one haha, you'll have to do that research on your own. Just check the recommended system specs for whatever editing software you want to use and make sure you have something nicer than that.
