so iv been up in Baton Rouge LA most of my summer.... im heading back to Telluride CO in about two weeks and i need to find a car under 6,000 to drive back.... i will be for the most part parking my car all winter because telluride is so small and my job is a fiew blocks from home... iv been looking for a car that does great for road trips i.e. good gas milage and can still drive in like 6 inches of snow... i do not realy know how to work on cars besides changing oil, and the basics. subarus are fuckin hard to find up here so an outback is outof the question....

so far here are my choices:

1998 ford explorer

1997 4runner

1998 honda civic, rice rocket.

2002 ford explorer- but the insurence in rediculous like 1200 every 6 months

please help me.... this is my first car purchace

Dont get an explorer, they end up having problems with lots of miles, My dad has one, it sucks

I don't know much about 4runners, but toyotas are really reliable

I would choose the civic, best gas mileage out of those and most fun to drive, pretty reliable.

thanks for the help

i gave you mad karma for that.....

the accord looks good except the automatic part..... i could defnitly go for that grand cheroke too keep m commin lol

Subaru, best car for car trips. I'm looking into a 4 runner right now, and they keep their value for a long long time...

You can't go wrong with a Civic!

I'm 17 and I've had 3 Civics in 1 year, yeah 3!!!!

First: civc lx 98 4 doors, parent's car they ''sold'' me, had fun with it, sold it a month later to my friend

Second: civic dx 98 HB, car i bought, beat it to death, blown the engine on it, put a JDM engine, sold it after

Third: civic 98 type r ''ek9'', my actual ride, fucking love it

For those that say civics dont run great in the snow, stfu, you only need good winter tires. Every FTW car is decent in snow, if it has good tires.

So definitively your best bet is a civic, especially manual if you can drive shift, the fun you can have with these is incredible and beating them is more acceptable (these cars are unkillable)

civic, accord, toyotas are all gonna be reliable, decently good on gas, cheap, and reliable. id look for one of those, and ski racks can be found on craigslist for not too much for allof em.

I've got a 96 grand cherokee w/ 145K miles, it gets decent gas milage. I've probably taken it in every condition you can think of (I do a bit of off roadin) and its still goin strong.

Sure you can get one for a good price

this 4 runner is 3000, they are super reliable, i had one as my first car, i put some nice tires on it and got a sound system and a rack, and tinted the windows. it was the best, everyone loved it, god i miss it.

by far the most potential, best in snow, with good tires and rims, a ski rack, and a sound system upgrade this car can be the most fun on road trips. buddy of mine had one in stick, fixed it up, it was soo tight.

theres my 2 cents.

When I got my first car, I got a GTI with only 55,000 miles on it for $6500. It was a great car, I just managed to get into 2 car accidents exactly a year apart and decided it was time for a new car. That car did great in the snow though, it traveled well, and I could fit my 160 skis in the trunk with out having to put the seats down. It also got about 30 miles to the gallon. The only down side is that they cost a little more to fix than a asian or american car.

Now ive got my subaru and I love it.

I did have a civic for a bit. They do handle decently in the snow, but I couldn't fit nearly as much stuff in one of those as I could the GTI or the Subaru. I keep my belongings to how much I can fit inside my car. If that isn't an issue for you, and you aren't planning on being in a location where 5 are stolen every day, then youre fine with a civic.

Valid advice. They do last forever... My friend had an 82 up until last year. I dont know how good of gas mileage the older ones get though.

If your looking for a car to go distance, I'ld stay above 25 mpg and look for cruise control.

My drive from LA to MN is about $250 - $300 each way and thats with 30mpg.

well fist of all, who in the south has a ski rack. secondly whos gonna respect somone who rolls up to the mountain in a rice rocket? you gonna put chains on those 22"s? im gonna maintain that a subaru is a good call, just keep looking.
