"Help make snow bum's lives better. Research questionnaire"

Hey guys, doing a

dissertation on what motivates people to do winter seasons, (somehow managed to

kid my uni tutor into letting me do it so I could do some “research” trips to

the mountains). If you’ve worked a

season would be super sweet if you could answer a short survey on what made you

want to do a season in the first place!

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/WY2DSP8

would really appreciate it if you could help a girl out! J

sweet idea for a dissertation...ive been formulating ideas for my own personal research project this semester, though not a dissertation, about the environmental consciousness of skiers and snowboarders and whether or not that plays a factor in what ski areas they choose to go to based on the area's environmental performance....super diffucult to gather some hard data for it but im getting there

Your idea sounds amaze! Let me know if you’d like a copy of my lit review or

anything to help you? Also cheers newschoolers almost

100 done! keep em coming! :)

Done. What degree is this for? You could make the resorts list a bit less euro-centric, I had to write in all of mine. Also, when you ask what people do in the summer, it'd be good to define whether people are doing a summer season in the sun, or whether they are having a southern hemi winter.

Hope it goes well.

sorry, I couldn't even finish the survey. You are from Europe and have never dedicated a winter to skiing I assume.

You keep referring to places as "resorts", that bugged me a lot because I live in a town. On your list of things that you find important at a ski hill you don't have terrain as an option and that's pretty much #1 on any true skiers list.

Look... mountain culture is about living in the mountains. Showing up to a "ski town" for a winter and working as a lifty isn't being a "ski bum" nor is it "living the dream". Mountain culture is a lifestyle, not a 4 month "working vacation".

How will this survey "make snow bum's lives better" anyways?

It's just the European style of doing things from my experience. In North America, you get ski towns where you can access a number of different resorts from (for example I lived in Banff last winter and worked at Sunshine Village but also skied Lake Louise, Norquay and made the trip to Revvy), but in Europe you live and work in a resort. The town IS the ski area basically.I think she probably intended to mean to include freeride terrain in with the "powder" options too. Maybe not perfectly worded but accounting for the influence of freeride terrain in a skier's choice.

Finally, in my opinion a better understanding of what motivates people's selection of a resort/town/call it what you like could help mountains make themselves more attractive to seasonal workers and improve the experience of people living and working there.

Sorry guys

the questionnaire is geared to European resorts, because originally it was focused

on European resorts and after publishing the survey I was told that should expand it to

include the rest of the world, realise now probably should have explained that,

but the other resorts listed will still be used in the final data analysis. By powder

I meant freeride terrain, sorry for any confusion with the wording guess it’s

the whole Europe// America// Canada difference. Am from a resort in the Alps so grew up living

“mountain lifestyle”, Hoping to provide a better understanding on what

motivates seasonaires. thanks to

everyone who’s taken the time to fill it! Constructive criticism’s always appreciated
