Hey guys

So I am planning on moving to the Park City area next summer. I have a year of college underneath me, and I have a GED. I was wondering how hard it is to find work in Park City during the summer or if it is basically required that I work in SLC. Are full time jobs at PC difficult to acquire or is it like most mountains where they hire an enormous number of people?

Thanks for your time guys, I appreciate it.

it's probably pretty difficult to get a job up here in the summer. your best bet might be to try to find a grocery store or something that would be hiring. it's pretty dead up here during the summer.

Honestly, your best bet would probably be to move here in winter when jobs are easy and make connections with the year-round crowd. I worked for Deer Velley last winter and through a friend of a friend was able to lock down an office job in PC. Def not fun, but s

but allows me to live here all year (and summers here are f'ing awesome). The month of May is absolutely dead, but you can probably latch on at a restaurant/bar or something in June. The resorts typically give first dibs on summer jobs to the winter employees.

Sounds good, I was planning on enrolling in a couple of classes over at the U though, so moving there for the season would probably be impossible. I'll probably just try and get a job in Salt Lake and maybe even live in Salt Lake at least until the season begins and I will be able to get a job at PC.

for class, job and living, SLC will undoubtedly be cheaper and easier.

There are infinitely more jobs, cheaper housing and you'll go to class more if you're down here.

PC is a great place to live, but I would get some money and connections under your belt before you move up there.

If you are going to school at the U living in SLC is a no-brainer. Driving 30 minutes to go skiing isn't bad, and the money you save on rent will cover the gas anyway. Not to mention driving 30 minutes to go to school is infinitely worse. Living in PC rules, but I would wait.

I'm not sure about the Canyons but PC does not have employee housing. Deer Valley does though.

I work at PC and I think your best bet would be to work "Flex" if you want to be an instructor. You need to get 16 points for the season (each day is worth a different amount) and you still receive a season pass. Working part time will not get you much work at all because there is a priority system, and if you want to use that job as a way to make money to pay for bills and such you're going to be screwed part time. Flex will give you the chance to make extra money, get that season pass, and still have time to work your other job.

That's about all the info I can give you. Like other people said, try and lock down jobs AND a place to live before you get out here.

DV is the only resort that offers employee housing (I'm a proud alumnus of Prospector Palace). It's shitty, but for $370/mo or whatever it was it's the best option if you're just getting in to town and have very limited funds. Your first year you can live in Prospector or Silver King which are both in town, after that you have to live in River's Edge in Heber.

That being said, I'm not sure if you can get employee housing as a part time employee. Your best bet might be to work for one of the high end restaurants at DV- your experience could probably get you in the door, and that would solve your housing issue.
